Default Head Scratcher...

Hi Guys.

I have a T reg turbo2000 mods include vf28, sti top mount, rcm headers, rcm up-pipe and downpipe, rcm induction kit, fpr, ecutek remap running 310bhp well was... The con rod snapped and poked a hole through the top of the block. Its been like that since xmas due to lack of funds. My plan is to buy a 2nd hand engine and fit it myself. What version would my car be? Is there a stronger engine that i could just fit in and drive without having to remap? or would i have to do that no matter what engine i put in? i really didnt want to go down the 2nd hand engine route as who's to say the same wont happen 20 miles down the road... I am planning on replacing the cam belt pulleys tensioners as well fit a pink exedy clutch. I dont know a lot about subarus but have done plenty of engine swaps before. Thanks for your time guys

Couple of hundred £££ on a bottom end from a decent member on here, similar on a remap, job done.

Your car doesn't have a version, what you need to check is what phase engine you have, it's easy enough,If the car is an my99 then it should have a phase 2 engine which has the coil pack off to the right on topof the inlet manifold, if it's central then it's a phase 1.5 engine.

Thanks for the info. It must be the phase 2 as the coil pack is to the right hand side cheers. What about engines?? Is there a phase 2 engine thats built stronger then mine as standard that i could just drop in? I hear some engines came forged as standard. Cheers again sorry for the stupid questions.

A v5/v6 sti engine would be the one to go for I think. Any older version engine the heads will be different so you would have to swap heads over from yours onto it. I've just done exactly that with the missus '99 v plate sti. Brought a fully forged engine from a '96 and swapped the heads over.

There is no real difference, the rods are the same and they are the weak spot, pistons are different so just go for a normal bottom end.

I got told by rcm and or Developments that the heads would probably be scrap basically the whole engine is scrap. I font really want to go down the path if splitting things open really... I just want to drop another engine straight in. So should I just source a t reg turbo 2000 lump with as low miles as possible?? And will it defiantly need a remap after. Thanks
