Default Parcelforce v Japan Post

Subtitled Land v Air I suppose.

I ordered a part from Japan (thanks Banny !) on 28th July.

£23 at current exchange rates.

£12-odd and 3 days to deliver it to the UK by Japan Post.

2 days for Parcelforce to inform me that Customs charges were payable.

Paid immediately online.

13 days later no delivery, so I complained via PF's website.

The day after I was advised that delivery would be expedited.

Got the Roof Vent Catch on Monday 19th Aug.
Among the documentation was a breakdown of the 'Customs Charges'.

£6-odd VAT and a £13.50 handling charge by Parcelforce.

£12-odd and less than 3 days to get from Japan to the UK.

£13.50 and 16 days to deliver it from Coventry to my humble abode in the S Wales Valleys.

No wonder the country's in a mess.

It's Newport where they delivered it from but the first (of many) stickers on the thing says 'Coventry International Hub', so I assume it entered their system there originally.

£23 - well add the VAT I suppose - £30 for an item and nearly £26 to get it delivered.

Why couldn't it have been Cardiff Airport?
There's hardly ever any Customs presence there

It's always the same with anything with a customs charge, It takes 2-3 days to get to the UK from just about anywhere in the world....Then at least a week to send you a letter to say you owe them more money!!!......and that's before they get round to sending it to you.

I just ordered a grands worth of parts from Japan. With VAT, Shipping and Fiddling fees you are looking at 47% on top.

I use DHL But they will still charge a fiddling fee

What annoyed me the most was that the package was able to be put through the letterbox, so it wasn't exactly large, yet still £13.50 and 16 days to deliver the thing.

Anyway the good news is that the roof vent hasn't welded itself shut with all the sun we're having.

It's the workforce in general here, it's fkd compared to other countries....if you watched Das Auto the week, there's one explanation.....it's no wonder the car industry went t*ts up
