Thumbs up Buying this sti

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have found it very useful so far, having previously owned 2 classic wrx's I've finally saved enough cash for sti..... Been looking at and ringing loads but either have sold or have high mileage on, finally come across this one witch I'm viewing tomorrow... Anyone have any info on the car or any tips on what to look for, common faults, problems etc... Car is very low mileage forage with full service history he says its also had amble change and service recently.. Any info will begreatfull

Thanks guys

Hello bwyty and welcome to SN.

I don't live far from you, a couple of valleys over.

I'm not sure but I thought STi's had a badge on the boot?
The seller hasn't taken a pic of the seats, which again should have STi on them I think.

Anyway, it is an STi, according to a Reg database.

No doubt you'll have lots of owners giving you advice. I've never owned one.

I hope it's worth it, you get it, and enjoy it.

FYI the major service and expensive cam belt change on a STI is at around 50,000 miles, so go for a car which has had this done, rather than one that is waiting for it.

Also, pads ain't cheap on an STI, discs are even more expensive, so make sure these have plenty of life in them.

Personally I don't like that STI on Autotrader, it has bits of body work etc changed, I'd rather have an unmolested example.

People like to debadge them, it has all the STI markings , clocks , seats, steering wheel, wheels, 6 speed gearbox, its an STI ,if it was a WRX it would have been extremely modded, the log book should also says its an STI.

To be honest, I've seen so many iterations of badge combination I don't know how they came standard anymore!

If I'm honest if that mileage is genuine and the rest is in good/mint condition and all the mapping has been done well, its abit of a bargain but I very much dought it will meet up to all of those but you never know till you view, good luck

I thought something looked a bit off but I think its just the skirts and rear lip making it look odd in my eyes, take someone mechanically minded with you if possible to keep from making any quick decisions.

I would rather buy from a known club member if possible but if it all checks out and everything is up to scratch........

If you do go to see it, don't forget to look hard for rust underneath, especially the front subframe where the engine cradle joins it. It can be hard to spot as the plastic undertrays hide it very well, so take a torch with you.

Looking at the image there is some serious carbon residue on the rear bumper above the exhaust.

Either been installed badly and it's cooking the bumper or it's running rich.

Can't say I like the look of it to be honest, the advert is very badly written you'd need to ask a lot of questions before even going to see it let alone think about parting with your dorrah...

Well thanks all,, some real good and bad feedback there... I spoke to the guy he said he's owned the car for about a year.. He isn't with a forum or scooby club. He owned a wr1 before this and said this sti is better.. Loads of receipts, cam belt change, services etc.. Re map done by scooby clinic with receipts.. He said he just needs a quick sale.. Lott of car for the money and by the way.. There's not loads of sti's out there at that price.. With that milage,, believe me I've been looking for weeks...

Thanks 4 the feedback anyway much appreciated will see tomorrow when I view it

I was in contact with redward a while ago and his sti was mint and I was very interested but he sold it.. No surprise at that price!!! The sti I'm going to view tomorrow does seem chea and a Lott of car 4 the money but as wrx scooby wrx said its a genuine sti with full service history to back up the milage and services and receipts for the re map etc,,, maybe a bargain?? But will definite look out for signs of rust etc... Also I'd personally de badge it my self if I'm onset so???

Cheers guys

But then he'd possibly need a couple of grand on top of that for the Hawk's 2.5 engine rebuild....

Blob stis are always for sale between 6k-7k now.
As above sounds like you have already bought it which is a big mistake IMO
Go there with an open mind, just because it's got fsh and low mileage does not mean its not been abused or looked after!
Go on condition and the owner not just mileage and history etc.
Of course your decision but I would leave that one mate and find a nice clean and tidy oem model ;-)
No rush is there for a great car to come up?

Weeks is not a long time to be looking for a good STI these days, they do often come up for your budget but you may have to wait a couple of months for the right car..... Worth It in the long run though.

I would see which receipts match the time he's owned the car, should give a good idea about how its been looked after etc, Its happening all the time now because of the price bracket these cars fall into but I'm always a bit wary of people who buy a car, thrash it for a year and then sell on.

Having said that I'm thinking about parting with mine already after about 6-7 months but in my defence I've only done about 300 mile lol.

Good luck with it though mate hope it turns out ok for ya
