Default help buying a new scooby

Hey eveyone went to see a blob eye today. Its in great nick and seemd to run really well. Cambelt done and lots off. Good stuff
Guys asking just under 5 for it at 71k miles

went to put a depost down on it but there's one problem
Guy wouldn't let me test drive it! He drove it around a fair bit with me in the passanger seat and everything seemed fine but he wouldn't let me take it out. Even just to the end off the road.

Should I be suspisious? Had to walk away in the end

I wouldnt buy without test drive as the model might not fit you, if you gave him deposit would he not let you drive?

I personally would never buy a car without test driving first. If he is to scared to let you drive it then let him keep it.

Majority of people or at least people who are not idiots request full insurance before a test drive.

That's fully comp, not 3rd party.

I'm going to give him cash to hold while I drive it. Bit annoying but oh well.

Iv been to see loads off cars now with mates parants relatives ect as I'm the resident mechanic (bit like the pc guy that people always ring)
This is the first time someone has even questioned about test driving it. They normaly offer befor you get to ask!
So I would definatly disagree that most people want insurance!

It's probably because your not insured on his car or didn't take proof of being insured on driving other cars 3rd party.
I wouldn't let anyone drive my cars that Ive sold without proof of insurance and a 10% deposit against the car.
But I'm a paranoid person and my cars always mean a lot to me lol

If your buying a car or interested in buying and can prove you are not wasting time and you have adequate insurance then you have every right to test drive the car before you buy it full stop. If he won't let you drive it then perhaps the car is not in the condition it is as described and you should move on. Remember its a buyers market right now not a sellers so does he want to sell it or what?
