Thinking about coming back to impreza ownership-Bit of advice please
Hi guys, over the last 10 years ive had 8 or 9 impreza's, ive always changed my car regular as i get bored. Im about ready to keep one now and need a bit of advice on my choice.
Budget really is around £7500 depending on how much a get for my civic type R (current daily) and im looking at either blobeye or hawkeye sti.
I had a 350bhp sti8 years back and loved, also had a spec D hawkeye sti which i didnt like so much.
For my budget ive been looking at 06 plate hawkeye sti's with 70k ish or 04/05 sti's with slightly less miles. The tax on the 2.5 impreza's isnt ideal and is there an issue with engine failure/head gasket probelms?
Any advice to help me with this choice will be greatly appreciated.

To be honest nothing mate, its the fn2 newer shape. Fantastic all rounder with decent boot and great interior/build quality but it just isnt fast enough and you really need to thrash it to get anywhere 8500rpm

A nice Blob would be a good place to start, a widetrack with PPP probably within your budget. These are great cars if they have been maintained and looked after well, and for a modest budget can be modded into absolute beasts.
If you get an early Hawk budget for a forged rebuild, it'll need it. Also a risk on the MY07 cars but they are less prone to it (though it will still eventually happen).
Don't listen too much to negative press on the Hawkeye cars, while I think they are the weakest of the STis to have hit our shores, with a 400bhp forged build and a decent suspension setup these cars are magnificent.
