Clutch price
Good afternoonall,
I have found anew clutch which has been recommended for my particular spec and budget.
It is an ACT 6paddle clutch for a classic 5 speed and the price is £580, rated to649ft/lb.
It is a fairdeal I suppose however I am a Yorkshireman, so, anybody know anybody who doesdeals on these? Or is breaking with a similar clutch (in good condition)
Cash waiting fora fair deal.
Thanks

That is MASSIVE overkill for a 5 speed box and a total waste of about £200 as the gearbox will be dust before you get anywhere near 640ftb.
You could get a lightweight exeddy flywheel and AP organic clutch for that sort of money.
But hey, I don't care it's not my money.

Thanks for your input ditchmaster. But I was told that the 5 speed is good for 500/600bhp?
I might have to rethink my options. If only the 5 speed clutch would marry with the 6 speed conversion on my garage floor, meaning I can still use my lightened flywheel from my current 5 speed. God I feel so stupid now.
£200 for my gearbox? type-r DCCD? Sounds cheap.
On a serious note if you can get me said flywheel and AP clutch for that money, please, provide me with the link.
I will check the thread now wiley, thank you.

who ever told you that was talking from their rectum.
You may be lucky and get away with 400bhp and slightly more, but you'll have to be very careful how you put the power down and steer clear of the drag strip, if you want it to last.
There is evidence of a FEW and I mean Very few, that have run at around 450bhp, and they are the exception we are talking 2/3 that I have heard of, but it's the torque that kills them.
Most accept that the 5 speeds are good up to about 350bhp after which they are on borrowed time.
I don't understand the middle part of your post, I think you miss read mine.
I don't have any links, but the point being you can get a decent clutch that will cope with the power a 5 speed can reliably handle and save yourself at least £200 and spend that on a lightened flywheel or goodies of your choice, it's a waste of your hard earned spending £580 on a clutch that you won't get much beyond half of the 649ftlb it's capable of handling, since you mentioned that your a tight wad then I just thought i'd save you from spending money you don't need to.
but like I said it's your dosh spend it how you like.
Oh but I did pay Less than £600 for my clutch and flywheel which are the above mentioned, but it was a few years ago, search about there's always a bargain to be had if you look hard enough and bide your time.

I feel bad for trolling you now, almost!
I am running around 420bhp through a 5 speed and am getting a bit fed up with not being able to launch, fast change or take it to the limit for fear for obliterating it!
Hence the 6 speed conversion.
Just thinking of futureproofing the clutch, which is why I am looking at the most aggressive possible. Looking to get 500bhp with this next stage but I know I will get bored of that too eventually, so the stronger the clutch the better.
Any ideas I am all ears!

ok now I understand a little more, tbh mate like I said and your experiencing the 5 speed will get shredded if you start full bore launching it in 99.9 out of 100 that do it need a new box pretty soon after.
If that's how you want to treat it then you need to go 6 speed and get a 6 speed clutch.
My opinion is anything else and your going to be wasting your dosh and p!ssin about.
The 5 speed clutch will fit a 6 speed box but I think you lose surface area, i'm not 100% on that so don't quote me.

Wellthat has settled it then!
Iknow where you are coming from, and the lads at the garage did say that I wouldlose some area, but as it made of tough stuff shouldn’t make much of adifference.
Isuppose there is only one way to find out!
Thanksfor the offer Wiley I think that is a good deal, however I would feel morecomfortable with a new clutch in, seen as I am that deep in now anyway! Goodluck with the sale and thanks everyone for the input
