Watch out for Travelodge on junc 5 M18
My Dad and I had booked a track day at Cadwell Park on the 26th June. We are based in the North West, so decided to travel up on the evening before and stay at a Travelodge. We have been a good few times before and stay at whichever location is best, when booking everything.
We parked with the back of the trailer to a hedge, to try and deter anyone thinking of taking the car off.
Basically, woke up at 6.30am to find NSR tyre on Dad's car slashed, no trailer and my Scooby had gone.
Someone had called the police, saying it was at the side of the road, about 10-15 miles from where we were (Off Junc 6) With NSF window smashed and bumper damage. Thankfully that's all they did and didn't drive it.
The trailer is unlikely to be seen again. There were systems in place, at the Travelodge, to look at activity going on and capture plates etc but no one seems to be willing to do anything about it. Apparently it is a prime location for travellers.
I am grateful to still have my car and handily have a spare Scooby, that I have just finished breaking, which I pinched the window from, but I would like to warn anyone who has a car transporter trailer as ours had a hitch lock and wheel clamp and still they got it off. Turned out to be a pretty expensive day.

Sorry to hear this, some people have to spoil if for others. Some people don't realise the time and money spend to have nice things. No CCTV in the carpark? I would contact travelodge head office

There was but they didn't seem to be too bothered about doing anything. Their excuse seemed to be that there are "travellers" in the area. It's £2500 for a replacement trailer of same spec. So very expensive day. At least I got to drive my Scooby home, I guess lol Having joy riders in it would be my worst nightmare. It has an 07 STI DCCD box upgrade in it, so wouldn't want anyone in it with poor clutch control, grinding gears.
I just don't want it to happen to anyone else. When the new trailer comes, we will either sleep in the car or have many things in place to stop people taking it. i.e massive chains round the trailer and back axle of dad's car, 4 wheel clamps and long bars through the wheels.

Really sorry to hear that.
However just wait until the end of this year when the floodgates open for all the East Europeans to come pouring in.
Then events like this will be commonplace.

A strange comment perhaps but sorry to hear of the problem but glad it wasn't anywhere as near bad as it could have been.
I've a mate who's an HGV driver and the stories he's told me of overnight troubles in NW services* etc. are incredible. He actually said that some drivers leave quantities of diesel under their lorry as a pay-off for not siphoning and causing damage.
(* Not saying the problem is confined to the NW, he just drives between S Wales and Scotland mainly. Strensham services had a reputation a few years back, not sure what it's like now).

I'm putting a tracker on mine, that connects to my iPhone, so I will always know where it is. It could have been much worse, so I appreciate that I still had something at the end of it. Just a shame and wanted to warn others

Don't worry chap, the police will be able to stop all this using speed cameras.........oh.....wait....
Makes my blood boil. They will go to the ends of the earth to chase someone for £90 and give them 3 points for NOTHING, but something like this? Forget it.
Here's your crime number....

Don't be too hasty slating the police, when I was burgled and lost everything but the furniture and they were seen doing it, the police told me they couldn't do anything about it as they were trying to get them for bigger things, but they more than made up for it by sending me some victim support leaflets

your trailer will be in the doncaster area , as most of the stuff nicked from lincolnshire and nottinghamshire is fenced through there they nick the trailers to tow landrovers away, I have a magnesium flare under the drivers seat which if it is stolen will be set of remotely and see if the thief will reproduce after

Yep it will be on the clay lane camp....and no the old bill won't do foooook all to get it back, they havnt got the ***** to raid the ****ing *****.
Bikes/quads/trailers/vans all end up on that camp.....cars and vans normally get left for a few hrs in hunger hill school to see if trackers are active

Sounds like the travellers have had a word with the staff.

When I had need of CCTV footage I was told only would be given to police, most keep footage for 7 days so ask if they can contact travel lodge to try to obtain it as they can't refuse them access.

We asked Travelodge and they said it was Moto's CCTV but when the police get there, they can access it. The police weren't really interested. We gave them details of the trailer and the VIN but they weren't interested. Guessing they aren't going to stop every Brian James Twin Axle trailer in Doncaster. It was 6.40 ish and we were case 124 of the day.....

Let's be blunt.
They are thieves.
