Dont Buy BP in June!
#1
Did anyone else get that Chain e-mail?
I had an email from a friend the other day - someone who I respect a great deal and whose opinion I value.
This guy is not prone to complaining about anything really - dont think I have ever seen him in a flap about anything. Anyway, the other day he forwarded me a chain e-mail that he had received that was complaining about the price of gas in the UK. He mentioned that it costs him £70 a time to fill his fuel tank - a similar vehicle in the USA costs just 18 DOLLARS (about £15 quid!!!)
Fair play I thought... gas sure aint cheap and as my new Scoob sucks it up like a cheap extra in "Deep Throat", I thought I would play along.
Here is the idea...
Last year the UK (and truckers in particular) tried to leave their cars (trucks, bikes etc) at home in an attempt to show the oil companies (and consequently the Government through reduced taxes) that we were not happy at all with paying through the nose for gas.
Now this was never going to work because:
1) We all love our cars too much
2) We all need our cars too much
so the only people losing out were us drivers, not the oil companies.
But we did it wrong...
What we should all have done is to boycott a particular brand of gas (ie. BP, Shell, Whatever...)
So the chain email asked me to boycott the largest supplier of gas in the UK - BP!
If everyone stops buying BP gas and switches to another supplier for a month or so - then guess what? BP's profits are hit. If the pressure is sustained, then eventually BP will be forced to reduce its prices at which time we all start buying BP again and also start boycotting another brand until they drop their prices BELOW BP's....
In essence (no pun intended for those French amongst us), we create our own price war between the oil companies!
So what do you all say? Shall we give it a go and see if we can make a difference?
If you agree to having a go then tell your friends and colleagues to NOT buy BP petrol for the entire month of June 2002. Publish it on other BBS's advertise it in the papers - whatever works for you but do try and get more support! Wouldnt it be interesting to see if we could make a difference.
Just imagine paying only £10 quid to fill your car up with Optimax!!!
Post a "yo" below if your up for it.
Mak.
PS. Sorry for the long post!

How about not buying Benson & Hedges, maybe it will start a price war with Lambert & Butler
Not for, but with. But that just makes me understand the pressures oil companies come under from people who blame them rather then the previous governments bad spending.
