Default New Hawkeye owner help required

Hi, I have just swapped my Bugeye wrx for a Hawkeye wrx and need some advise.

I have a knocking noise that you can hear from the passenger foot area. I think I have traced it to a fuel damper valve, but has anyone else experienced these failing and making a knocking sound.

Also, I am getting a knock from a rear strut and it seems to be sticking. Subaru want over £700 for a pair of shocks. Can anyone recommend an alternative to OEM but not looking for any performance change, just replacement.

Thanks in advance

Jason

Don't know anything about the fuel thingy your asking about but knocking rear shocks are common. There is a thread somewhere here or a link to another forum SIDC i think it was where they had a step by step in stripping and re-greasing the shocks. I believe Chevron Motorsport also do a re-build service for not much money.

There have been a few reports of the fronts knocking as well.

I know that Bilstein in conjunction with Prodrive worked on a modification to the struts on the RB320, to cure the knocking.
Can standard non Bilstein struts be re-worked then?

Hi All, thanks for the responses.

Chevron motorsport look good but a bit too far away for me in Walderslade.

I spoke to Subaru, who want £700 plus vat for a pair of rear shocks.

I can get a pair of Koni shocks for £260, but not sure if they are a direct replacement and if I need to do fronts as well.

Fuel damper is fixed to the inner wing on the front near side shock tower, there are 2 one for the feed and one for the return. The feed seems to knock and the return is quiet. I would be interested if this is normal. This only seems to be when warm and on idle.

Thanks

Sure there's a set of full RB320 shocks that have been re-worked to prevent them knocking, for sale on the RB320 owners club!

I think you could but a set of coil overs for the price the dealers quoted you for a pair of standard shocks??

Hi chopperman, the problem I have is I have no idea what im looking for. I had my bugeye for 9 year's and the only thing I did was add mud flaps. So im looking for a replacement I can give to my mechanic to fit.

Before you part with your hard earned buying the over priced poor quality standard shocks i would surf the net. Look for what quality after market kit is out there. You may save a few quid and improve your car.

Hi Steve. Scoobyclinic looks promising for kyb shocks, couldnt see them for £45 a corner. But £120 isnt bad compared to dealer. Anyone had any experience of the kyb shocks in terms of quality and ride. Are they similar to stock in terms of performance.

Thanks

The KYB AGX are very good, adjustable and very reasonably priced.

im sure that the 01-04 sti suspension would work on a wrx, but the sti 05 onwards is different, the standard subaru (kyb) shocks are a good set-up on the road

Thanks for all the advise. Going to order some kyb shocks from scoobyclinic.

Just need to sort the knocking noise out that I can hear from the passenger foot area. I have seen some info regarding the fuel lines being fixed to this area in the engine bay causing a knock noise inside the car.

I think the shocks for the 100 pcd hubs are different from the shocks for the 114 pcd hubs.

im pretty sure its the bolt spacing but as far as im aware you can modify the 114.3 hubs to suit 100pcd but ive never done it, i would call scoobyclinic first before you order to ensure you get the correct shocks

Lithium Grease - £5 from Halfords. Just done my struts (sprayed under the shield). Stopped the knocking immediately.

Add £150 to the Subaru price and CP autos are doing a set of adjustable BC's for that price.
