Default Opinions: Area 52 Nottingham

Ok guys, so the search function turned up very little, despite me having spotted this specialist mentioned!

I'm looking for opinions on these from anyone who has dealt with them.

Got off of the phone with Jase, and he seemed genuine enough, so just looking for any experiences people have, good or bad please!

Thanks.

Thanks guys. Seems like they have a good rep, although I did notice a thread mentioning that their rep was bad at one point!

When looking for my engine rebuild i found a few threads about a job that went sour for Area52, After speaking to Jason face to face i think i would use Area52 for some work in the future.

been to area52 a few times and they have always been helpful and know what they are talking about

only negative point about them was about 3 years ago, i went with my local group (was sheffield scoobies, now ukscoobies) and 2 lads had just had simtecs fitted and mapped by someone else well known, when they were on the rollers, they both made less power than expected and had poor graphs and were advised they were detting and unsafe to drive. they were offered remap's at a good price, both declined and contacted the origional mapper.
it turned out that me and a couple of other lads spotted a worker at the back of both these cars on the rollers (he wasn't there with any other cars). he had been putting a towel in the exhaust pipe on the power run

don't know if they were trying to give the mapper a bad name or just wanted to remap some simtecs, all vehicles without simtecs were fine, but like i said, it was over 3 years ago

Really???? Would any genuine business try such a thing as i find that hard to believe...

When I first visited Area52 it was for a power run just after a road map by Simon (JGM) after the dyno power run I was advised by Jason to contact my mapper as it was not running correct on boost. After showing Simon the dyno plots he agreed and came back to remap the car on Area52's dyno and we had a result from 378 bhp to 428 bhp and all was good.

Good honest advice was what I got and never an offer to remap my car by them selfs, I only speak from my own experience.

Are you on crack how long do you think a towel would last on a power run with the exhaust temps the only reason they did what they did was to test the lambda probe as some free flowing exhausts can give a false reading on idel.
Try and hold a towel up your own exhaust on a power run and see what happens lol

I made the mistake of taking my car to them for an engine build a few years back.lets just say that after the car was off the road for a year, and two attempts to build me an engine that failed miserably.i finally got my solicitor to regain most of the money for me just before it went to court.

Cheers Tidgy.

I'm not actually looking for a tuner, but for a Dyno and some diagnostics, as I have an intermittent fault that I'll be buggered if I can find!

Cheers though matey!

Maybe he was using the towl to remove and put the lambda probe into the exhaust as they get hot after being in a exhaust from a power run!!!!

Didn't Area 52 used to be Scoobymania??? I bought a few things from Scoobymania about 7-8 years ago and found them quite helpful, if its the same company id use them and im quite fussy who works on my cars!!!!

Yes mate it's the same company and I wouldn't trust anyone else to work on my car and I'm very fussy who works on it as you say.
Please note I'm not on commission or have shares in the company unlike tidgy with Scooby clinic lol, I'm sure he has a I love Scooby clinic tattoo.

But at the end of the day most company's have good and bad stories my advice is to find the one closest to you that you can trust.

No you deal with it, did you or the other 3 ask why they did this or did you just think lets make a story up as our cars did not make the power you wanted.

Come on Dave what do you think would happen to a towel up an exhaust on full chat or the persons hand holding it there, I tell you what why not come down to area 52 with the 3 others and I will pay for all 3 power runs why you hold a towel up you own exhaust pipe and if it doesn't burst into flames or your hand does not melt then you may have a point.

Is there a reason why they call you Boozy Dave.

All the best FUJI HEAVY INDUSTRIES
