Default Rebuild Cost?

I have owned 2 RX8s in the past which are known for loosing compression, the cost of a rebuild for them is averagely between £2000 - £3000 depending on the state of the engine when stripped.

I have been reading quite a few posts about scooby engines needing a rebuild once the bottom end goes bang. What is the cost of getting it back up and running?

Are there any symptoms other than the knocking? Whats the cause of this? Thanks

Depends on parts used and the damage found but 3K is needed normally but more in some cases.

20+ hours. maybe if you've never done one before, but a skilled operation with a well equipped garage and engine building room should be doing it in a fair few less hours than that, as a straight forward engine out, strip, rebuild, engine in, there is of course machine shop costs/time on top.

Would be interesting to see just how quickly it could be done with everything in place, Scrap heap challenge style.

as above cost can vary, as most guys use the rebuild as an opportunity to upgrade some of the parts to possibly forged like pistons and rods and so on, and again will depend on what exactly is all needing done and where you go to get the work carried out, would say around the same though as a rough ball park figure 2-3k
