Default Brake issue and power upgrade

Hi, I have an 02 wrx brake issue. When braking and down to under 10 mph you get a weird feel on the brake pedal. It feels like it pushes back on your foot for a second or so and then normal again. The brakes don't feel as soft as you would expect. The vacuum is def working as I have pulled the pipe off to check vacuum is there and checked the pedal with it on and off. Occasionally the ABS light comes on but doesn't stay on. Also I want to up the power without being silly. I've been quoted £200 to remap it to about 260bhp. Is this the best way to do it or is there a cheaper, better way to do it ? Would appreciate any advice. Cheers

As above brakes first. As for the map £200 is very cheap. Is that a generic map or custom tailored for your car? Is it a well known subaru mapper?

If the abs light has flashed on the dash then it would of saved a fault code, get a scanner on the car and itll tell you whats up with it. Itll probably be a dodgy sensor etc, the pedal pushing back that you feel is the abs kicking in and will no doubt be due to the fault.

Not sure if it's generic or not. He def knows his stuff and was doing me a favour to re map it. Im new to the scoobie scene so am unsure about everything with them. I've had the car on my ramp and the discs/pads/ calipers all seem fine. I drive many cars and have never felt a pedal do that so thought that someone would have had this issue as well to give me a quick fix !
