Default eBay FMIC

Guys,

Was looking at getting a japspeed FMIC but they seem to be taking ages to come in. Seen a kit on eBay for around 200quid has anyone had any experience using them?? I know they are not as good as the intercoolers for the 1000 mark but seen a lot of good reports on the japspeed ones so wondered if the eBay kits would be ok. Looking at running about 350bhp with with a SC36 and other supporting mods on a 2004 WRX

Cheers

Only 66 feedback's can give cause for suspicion. They may be genuine and just started using e-bay.

There have been numerous threads asking the same question.

If i remember correctly there are a lot of people such as Jura running over 500bhp with these without a problem. However, there are the haters out there.

I know bob at aztecperformance is selling some really nice kits for not a lot more money.

I may give it a bash with a SC36 and see what its like.

Also didn't want to start another thread if I can get a quick answer here, My Headers look like they have seen better days.. Should I stick with the stock ones for 350bhp or go for the RCM Designed Tubular Manifold & Venturi Up Pipe

Looking at the kit and assuming the picture shows all of it, you will need to do a fair bit of 'flying by the seat of your pants' during installation!

Do the headers at the same time and then its all done and you only have to pay for one map.

Try and get them wrapped otherwise they'll boil your rocker cover sills on the drivers side.

Yeah will get it all done at the same time then map it.

I have emailed a user called BRAVEHEART_STI as he does the ported headers, for 350bhp they should be ok.

Just need to decided on this FMIC. The Japspeed ones are taking to long to come in!

Problem people have with ebay is you never know how good the fitment is, some use generic cores so are a pita fitting and some are pish poor quality so crap flow.

you may buy a bargin or buy it and then find its crap so wasted your money, not always the case but its a risk with an unknown unbranded item

You'll probably find that the japspeed ones are the same as the ebay ones anyway. They all come from China and are all good enough for what you need.

problem is the proven ones aint cheap, japspeeds is a generic core and not direct fit (was mentioned several times in threads on here, so someone correct me if that isnt correct) but is ok when fitted apparently. Perrin is a top notch one but isn't cheap at all (£1500 ish once fitted iirc).

A £200 cooler is plenty good enough for 99% of cars. The gains you'd see from a £1500 cooler compared to a £200 cooler are minimal and just don't make sense to most people.
The HDI kits are proven, I don't rate the design but they do what they need to and are good value for money. But like tubs said, maybe hard to source now

There was a thread a few weeks back comparing the japspeed kits to a certain ebay item (2fast2cool I think) and the kits were identical.

Hi there

I've run Japspeed core at 490bhp with 25bhp NOS shot and can only say at this power has coped without the problem.Core is smaller than Hybrid or other makers

Before few people said, this core will not cope above 400bhp,we are run 490bhp

You should have look on the older Hybrid(or pipework),which have similar pipework as Japspeed

If yours car is lowered, you can snap(on speed bump) the pipework which is going underneath the car, this happen to Steve@Stevesbluewrx

Thanks for the info. With looking for 350bhp is a FMIC needed, or should I stick to the STI TMIC I already have??

You can almost guarantee if you don't the day it comes to being on the rollers and being mapped they won't be able to keep temps down and recommend a front mount.

Toyo sports, 2 fast 2 cool, Japspeed etc etc etc are all the same intercooler sourced form china. Generic part rebranded or sold by loads of company's sometimes up to £450 by reputable names but still same product.
I'm running a £199 fmic off eBay on my newage blob Sti with Japspeed headers still on the vf35.
Only prob I had was the silicone joiners are horrendous and kept blowing them off all the time so changed them all for sfs joiners.
Heres the before and after of fitting the headers, fmic and ported turbo.
Originally remapped mapped at 1.5bar, 316/300
Remap with parts added running 1.3bar now at 352/360 @ Enginetuner
Big torque gains from headers and fmic
Cheers Chris
