1/4 mile times
#1
i dont own an impreza or any subaru, but i am interested in all cars.
i was just wondering if anyone could tell me the standard 1/4 mile times for uk turbos and wrx's.
the reason i ask is a rover 220 turbo driver had told me he absolutely ablitirated a impreza the other day and he has a 1/4 mile time of 14.9.
any replies would be appreciated . cheerz[]

Top Gear Tested an MY97 UK turbo with 208bhp back in NOV 1997 and got 13.9 @ 98mph. I should imagine that most of the UK impreza turbo upto MY00 would hit around early 14s ideally but with plenty of clutch and gearbox abuse. The new MY01 WRX UK cars are 150kg heavier and have the same bhp so I would assume they maybe mid to late 14s
JDM cars upto MY00 they it depends on MY and model. A "standard" STI 5 or 6 (276bhp) you are probably looking at mid to early 13s with abuse of clutch and gearbox. Not seen many MY01 WRX JDM cars but they went from 276bhp to 247 bhp ( I think).
MY01 STIs (JDM and UK spec) are again heavier but ahve the new diff and 6 speed so I would have though mid to late 13s.
All guess work really as most owners wont give them the abuse a test driver or journo would as they had to pay for their own gearboxes, clutches, diffs and engines.
One last thing you may get plenty of replies to this but look how many are standard .
Cheers

my modded coupe turbo (220-230bhp approx) will do 14.5s at pod, with load of wheelspin getting off the mark. std coupe turbo is around 14.9-15.2s depending on driver and how much abuse they give it.
on the roads mine will pull away from uk spec scoobs, and upto 260bhp models. anything higher than that spec it gets more even, then starts going the scooby way!
we got to loads of drag events at york and santa pod, from the many runs i've seen a uk spec scoob will do 14.4s to 15s on the 1/4
265bhp models will get under 14s just
280+ will get low 13s, and maybe into the high 12s times.
all a bit dependant on how much abuse the owner will give to launch it right.
for comparison evo 6 std will do 13.4sto 13.9s depending on driver.
std gti-r 14.4s ish
280bhp gti-r 13.3 to 13.9s again
300+bhp gti-r under 13s to low 12s
(from club members times etc)

Lat year at Santa Pod I got a time of 12.5 secs in my Sport. Rods Vauxhall Viva timed just a second quicker at 11.5 secs. Had a great day out. Even shouted Rods a little chef on the way home.

Peccy,
Do you have any pics of the beatle with nitrus? What time did it run and what did it run against. I can't remember, I was so amazed by how fast it was I have lapsed into tempoary amnesia.
Regards,
Rob

I had a go at this before I got my scoob in my 89 Golf GTI16V (slightly modded). This was at the TRL and I got 15.8 for my first ever run.
Looking at the times above, this seems to be fantastic, although I suspect the timing equipment may have been a 'tad' generous

A couple of years ago I ran my car at S'Pod, then it was a stock UK MY98 Turbo with a Milltek Back Box and ITG filter.
At the start of the day I ran the 1/4 at 14.44, at the end 13.77 termical speed 99.7mph...
Now it would be interesting to see...although I know the clutch wouldn't survive the launch...
