Default Bottled it this morning

Took the S202 into the Vale this morning and as I've had the car since October thought I,d try the launch control but when it came to it I wimped out. I suppose you could say that if its there it should be ok to use but then I kept remembering stories about gearboxes going bang (or is that just the 5 speed boxes). Anyway I'll try again when I've grown a pair

It's not just your box that may suffer, unless youv got a twin plate clutch you may kill it if you launch it properly.

Launch control puts alot of stress on many components, its an old car now. Unless your prepared to pay for broken parts id leave the launch control alone.
I had it on my classic along with anti lag, unplugged both from the ecu and never used either of the poimtless gimicks.

It has an ACT extreme street clutch so should handle it. It's Kas's old S202.

I'm not one for hard launches, but does it really hurt every now and again on a standard-ish car?

Used to do fairley hard lanches in my old 03 wrx and the mechanic at the dealers said "if you can smell the clutch you will have damaged it". Not shagged it but not done it a lot of good

Old thread to post on, however...

Still bottling it Kas, maybe try it when it's a bit damp so it won't feel so hard on the drivetrain

I was nervous about launching my car, thinking what if I lose control etc, had an argument with the bird, launched the car a few times in a bad mood, now I wish I didnt, reason being when I put my foot down in second, the car feels bloody slow, Im craving that launch feeling!

Christ man, grow some....

My Golf diesel has launch control for christsake !

dunx

P.S. As a low spec. car I'm worried about launching at 3000 rpm as the clutch has 131,000 miles on it !

I'm with some. Grow some. It sounds epic and then smile it puts on my face when you sidestep the clutch at 6k rpm and 1.5 bar of boost is like nothing else!
