Cam belt for a 2002 WRX UK bugeye?
Hi There
Im new to the forum and just got myself a 2002 WRX (Bugeye) It has 109000 miles and no invoice for having the timing belt done. This is going to be my first job. Looking online it looks like the Gates kit is the one every one rates! Is this the one to get? also it shows on there web page that the kit fits 2002 to 2007. Is there a difference between the 2001 bugeye and the 2002 bugeye engines?
Also is it best to get the kit with the replacement waterpump?
Sorry for all the questions but im sure i will have plenty more when ige on to the tuning stage
Cheers Don

Don't quote me but ithink the bugeye Cambelt is a little longer than the likes of the classic belts due to it having an extra idler pulley that earlier engines don't have
Not sure what everyone recommends belt wise but used gates in the past with no issues at all,but think people prefer them due to them having the timing marks on the belt which makes it a little easier
And having just recently rebuilt my 2002 engine albeit out of the car on an engine stand don't think it will take very long at all
In the car at a rough guess maybe and hour or two just depends how competent you are and how easy the crank pulley bolt comes undone lol
If honest it's a nice easy job compared to most as its easy to access being at the front of car
Just make sure when done you rotate it at least a couple of times by hand and worth noting also there are two marks on the crank pulley make sure it's set to the right one or valves will touch

Give Alyn a ring, authorised trader on here and will be happy to help and get you what you need at a good prce. Won't sell you stuff you don't need nor get you to buy more expensive kit.
