Default AST

Removed my AST's and the front 2 require a rebuild, a rebuild would be in the ballpark of £4-500. What would be a fair price for them, includes new platforms which cost me £70 2 weeks ago.

Ah fair enough. So you paid labour to remove etc? My bro has AST on his MINI and I don't recall him paying that much to have them repaired, but he did take them off the car and drop them down.

£250 i reckon banny, they some good coilovers them!

as they are off the car now, will be cheaper.. i reckon, you probs paid £100 to remove. alignment another £100 which cant really be factored in as anyone sticking coilies on would do that anyway. £200 to get rebuilt.

most likely cost £450/500 for a mint set of coilovers, bargain tbh compared to some second hand sets you buy around that

Banny I'm curious

how many miles have you covered on the rears before they were rebuilt?

How many on the front?

And I assume you bought them new?

I bought them second hand in 08 I think, when I had the rear rebuilt Curtis said they were about 5 years old, I think covered about 30-40k miles in the time I had them. Cant fault them even though the front two need sorting it still drove pretty well and was stable well into 3 figures

I had my four ast's overhauled and also changed rear springs to the tapered type (uses original top mount)

circa £1100 but that was drive in drive out price by Iain litchfield and Curtis

So £400 spent for another 5+ years motoring or 30,000-?????? Miles as you don't know how old or how many miles had been covered on the prior to your ownership, why would you not spend the £400 as your other option is probably £2k on new ones, seems madness to me lol

And of you like them and can't fault them.........

Best of luck and would be nice to know how the to compare back to back from someone who has used them both and on the same car

£1100 for a rebuild!!! f u k me!

I am looking at a set of coilovers for my motor either EXE-TC or Ohlins. KW is also an option and I am pretty sure they make the Bilstien kit to.

Am i missing something here, we'er talking new seals and fresh oil, or are they being sand blasted, powder coated and the springs gold plated as well.

Seems an awful lot of money for seals and oil, i've done a set of motor bike forks ( same principal ) many moons ago and there was nothing to it, cost about £15 for parts at rip off yamaha prices for a couple of seals.

I gave mine away to someone on here.
Wouldn't have seemed right accepting money for them.
20,000 miles a year equalled frequent expense and the car off the road for a week - plus need to do alignment every time they are replaced - which was almost invariably soon after a previous alignment
Gone for BCs - seem OK so far I guess.

Just checked it was £1000

So worked out roughly £750 for overhaul all 4 struts That inc new bushes, new seals and new oil plus revised new jets. By Curtis. Inc removal and refitting, bleeding brakes and geometry by Litchfields.

The other £250 was i changed the original parallel rear springs for the tapered rear spring

That still seems a lot off money. On a ramp with air tools etc. Could probably have all 4 off in an hr or just over. Did you ask to have the brakes bled. As no need to disconnect brake lines to remove and refit struts

Funny, I've never heard anything good regarding the timescale for a re-build on these AST units....

I was chatting to a friend on Tuesday night, he now has BC's on his car as the AST's weren't done and returned in time for an event.

He's more than happy with his "temporary" fix.

They'll be sold once they are available....

dunx

P.S. Had a passenger demo of a car with KW's fitted, I was well impressed.

Yes but I wasn't worried about cost. Happier with it done properly and with provenance.

My car was a T20 with AST so needed it standard. And it work well

Sounds a nice little package. Seems in the last six months their name keeps popping up on here, obviously they've been around for a while just personally keep reading post praising their work

Haha wish I could help on price but if they need fixing you might be better off getting them fixed as most won't want the hassle of doing it themselves due to time and effort so i would fox them then try and sell them.

Oh and thanks for the constructive post which has lead to the discussion albeit without a price lol
