Default 55reg Blobeye STi

Hi, I've spotted a 55 reg Blobeye STi with 63k on the clock. Not sure if its a wide track with DCCD. It's up for £7950, if the condition is good, is it worth the asking price? This is from a vauxhaul dealer, not private so may be able to get warranty thrown in there too.

Your opinions are appreciated.

Thanks

55 should be widetrack, you'd know by the slight flares on the rear arches.

£7950 does seem decent price. £7k is usually private sale value, so prob get forecourt price down to 7.5k at least, maybe more if you are a good bargaining man!

Seems a good price, but as mentioned you could get one with some nice mods for the same or perhaps a bit cheaper.

I've been searching for about 8 weeks, where do you guys figure these prices from? I've checked the usual on a daily basis, Autotrader, pistonheads, here, local scooby site. The only places which come close are eBay, but they're still around £7-8k for a standard car.

Am I looking in the wrong places?

No, that is a good price actually they go for about 7-9k so that's nice, and I would be wary of buying one that's modded unless its from a genuine enthusiast.
It will have dccd and Widetrack so should be ok, make sure it's got good service history and blag them down as much as you can and go for it

I paid 8k for a 2005 STi albeit with only 36k miles, that was back in November to give you an idea.

Did I pay over the odds? Possibly - but it was one of those "you had to see it" moments, the thing is/was mint.

Well this has really got me baffled, it's a 55reg car hpi checked etc, has the slightly flared arches and bumpers to match but it has no DCCD. WTF?

Spoke to Alyn at ASP and he thinks it could be a 2004 model, registered in 2005, therefore that's only worth the same amount as a 54 reg car surely? <£7000 in that case.

Just had an argument with 3 salesmen who were trying to tell me it was a car it wasn't.
"It doesn't have DCCD"
"It does, there it is" whilst pointing to the intercooler spray button. HA!

I've got chassis number, can someone check it for me or will I have to contact Subaru?

That one would suit me if they'd come down in price.

I don't think they were quite expecting me to know so much about them. One thing it had tought me, is this: I was also contemplating an Evo (just to try out), but after that, I'm quite confident that its an Impreza I should go for. If that had been an Evo, I wouldn't have had a fuggin clue.

If they don't know what they are selling, will they let it go for less as they think its a better spec than it actually is.

Hopefully yes, as it can be proved that it isn't what they think. Already said they'll negotiate on price.

This is what's confusing me. It has everything to say its an 05 STi, even down to the all black steering wheel. Had intercooler spray, wide arches, 6 speed box, STi engine (well red-top anyway), STi interior, intercooler. Just not the DCCD. I'm going to check with Subaru and see what they say about it.

if its a uk widetrack it should have dccd no question.
has it got the dccd readout on the dashboard and maybe the switch is removed.

only other way to tell if its a genuine widetrack is to check if it has 114 pcd wheels.

narrow track will be 100 pcd

Hmmm that's a good idea. Do you have any images of the dash for a car with DCCD?

Aren't all STi 114 PCD though?

no narrow track blob sti is 100 pcd, only newage cars that are 114 pcd are widetrack blob sti and hawkeye sti. all others are 100 pcd

you can see the dccd part on the left of the cluster, this is what should be in a blob sti widetrack.

personally i would walk away something is not right

Ooooooh that's interesting, could have come through Malta or something? My last WRX did. Will go check the docs.

Could it still be a widetrack tho? How wide was the track on these? I'll take my trusty tape measurer.

Excellent thank you, will go and have another look.

TonyBurns may be onto something there. If its an EU import its time to get my bargaining hat on

I went to buy one ages ago and it was in import from Cyprus. As stated before in previous post the eu cars did not have DCCD as standard. I bought an 03 sti 2 months ago and it is very good condition. Wanted a widetrack but could not find one that was as good as the 03 I bought as has 38k on it. Don't be put off that it is an import or non DCCD. Buy an sti by condition as age and miles does not always mean it it a better car. Also as I found out from driving loads of widetrack cars, you don't really need it unless you on the track. Hope you find the right one.

Sadly the interior photo doesn't quite tell us whether it has DCCD. However if a UK model (and HPI check should tell you that) it looks like a DCCD model, what with the slightly flared rear arches, updated interior etc.

Is there no little button by the cup holders?

A number plate check suggests it is a UK car and hasn't been imported.

If you buy from a dealer do get a warranty, and not a crappy one, but something that covers absolutely everything. Make them service the car and stamp the log book and change the cam belt. After all if you are going to pay a dealer premium there might as well be something in it for you.

I know it's not a 2.5, they said it was a typing mistake! What, on every advert you've posted and the sticker on the car?

Definitely no little button near the cup holders. Could it still be wide track tho?

I've got a few things against it which I'm going to use as ammo and see if I can get myself a little bargain. The car is in great shape, no dents, scratches or rust. Ok it's on 63k but its hardly moon-miles. See if they'll dip below £7k for a quick turn around.
