Default Flyeye Kit fitted to my Spec-D today

Well its a controversial mod but I had to try it given the low cost... Fly Eye kit fitted today after a wash.

Close up vid:

I must say I really like the look it gives on the crystal grey. I also like that it is one of very few ways to look a bit different while keeping a Spec-D exterior stock.

Time will tell on how it acts on the darkest of dark roads. So far not looking like making a massive light loss but yet to do a proper dark drive. If its crap then at least I can just peel it off and say I only lost a tenner and 45 mins! Bloody wonderful material to work with.

You could have bought the perspex headlight protectors and tinted those. That way all you have to do is unclip them at night. Does look good though mate.

Yeah it was an option but even really good ones look clipped on and make the lines of the front end look a bit off (if that makes sense). Plus driving around with totaly black lights in the day, while looking great, is a sure fire way to end up with a 'Of course I take them off at night officer!!' argument.

True but you do get the added bonus of protecting the headlight and at £600 each that's a good thing.

Fair point. Safe to say now i've seen it like this if these turn out to be crap in the dark then that'll be the way to go! £600... so annoying. I de-tango'd my blob and I really wanted to do it to this but would anyone stick £1200 in their oven to get into them! still tempting!

They are fine in the dark mate - I've had mine on for about 6 months and there is a slight loss of light, but not enough to make it dangerous.

Cheers bud - Can't be any worse than some cars I've driven! Mk2 Golf Gti might as well have had candles from a birthday cake in the lights!

Rears and sides to do next me thinks. Hawk headlights used a lot of material so another £10 needed!

Not a fan of tinted lenses. Personal preference just think it looks out of place on a standard car.

Would suit black housing inside the lamps but would need splitting for that.

Don't get anywhere else. The cheap stuiff off ebay which I tried first does not stretch that much and tears easily as it is brittle. The genuine stuff is very stretchy

That'd be the route i'd most like to go Jake its just i'd want to do it with a second set of lights so i've got the stock ones still. Gonna need about £300 to do it at second/breakers rates. Still i'm pleased with the look for now. It scratched my tinkering itch for another week or so

U painted that zaust tip yet? Lol

I've just changed my fly eyes tint on my headlights after three years and it stood up to the test of time really well. I fancied something a little different and changed the black tint to yellow. It's starting to grow on me, but it's a real love it ir hate it jobbie and as has been said, I can peel it off in seconds if it doesn't grow on me.

Interesting mate... bold choice of colours thats for sure! Might work better if you coded the mirrors to yellow now?

Personally I prefer the black on the white but that is just me.

Does the colour of the yellow film bleed into the light output badly?

The yellow doesnt affect the light output at all and there's no hint of the yellow tint when they're on. The mirrors are colour coded to my green wheels. It's a bit of a strange colour combination that has taken a bit of getting used to, but i'm having my wheels powdercoated blue soon, so I hope the colours tie in better, especially when the mirrors are blue too. If I dont like the tint then, I'll probably change back to black. It's definately a talking point at the minute though

No probs chap. Video says more than photos ever can i think. Especially to show how easy it is to fit. Rears will take no time at all (i'll do a vid when i do them next week weather depending).

Well worth £13.99 for the largest roll. That'll give you plenty for the rears and probably enough if you really messed up to do a whole other light. To be honest with this stuff it is almost impossible to go wrong.

Just answered my next question, how much should I go for? Might do fogs too, not sure yet. Where did you get it from, the Flyeyes website? and whats their delivery times like?
Sorry for so many questions

Yep I got it direct from their site. I'm sure other places do the same stuff but why risk it when its not a bank breaker.
I ordered it at about 2pm Friday and it arrived the next day by first class mail. Really wasn't expecting it that quick so was rather pleased!
You won't need it all but if you have loads left you can pass it on to others... best to have spare for the job I always say (it does go off though so pass it off quickly!).

What colour do you think will be the best match for your crystal grey bodywork? From their website I reckon grey 4 or 5?

Looking good
