There are loads of members on here that no longer own a Subaru (me included) I was just wondering what it was that made you change?
fuel/insurance
personal circumstances
something better
or just fancied a change?
Sorry if this is in the wrong place

They're pretty rare but I suppose not the most luxurious

So you prefer the rawness of a classic rather than something a little more refined and a little easier to live with day to day?
Changed to a Turbocharged 2.0i B class Mercedes. Much better fuel economy, performance similar to WRX with it being 2 wheel drive. More luxurious, much cheaper tax and insurance, more practical.
S2000, what a car. Got as far as a test drive then found out my wife was pregnant so that was the end of that. Always hoped that I might buy one yet but now they have stopped making them and there are no MK2s its looking very unlikely.
I haven't got as far as a test drive yet but there is a 2009 GT in a garage close by I will test drive once the snow is gone, just been reading up on them. My budget will be max £6000 so I'll be looking at good nick low milage 2002ish cars (ideally I want a black or silver AP1 with the improvements before the AP2 was introduced)
Have you registered in the S2k forums? Learnt some very good advice on there that helped with potential purchases. It was around 4 years ago now so I can't remember details but one of the common problems was something to do with geometry bolts seizing and being a pig of a job £1000+ to put right as you need to lift the car off the subframe to get at them.
There are specialists who can so it for £300 and weld bolts in upside down though negating the need to take it off the frame so it shouldn't be a massive problem but definitely one to be aware of. Considering this was the only issue flagged up I though that was pretty impressive.

Yeah I have registered and have been browsing for a few months, I was aware of the troublesome geo bolts but didn't realise the car had to come off the subframe to fix! Thanks for that I will pay particular attention to this when looking/questioning possible purchases, apart from that they seem to be pretty bulletproof except for inevitable things like hood replacement etc.
Double check about the subframe as I cant remember exactly what needed doing, I just recall that it was an expensive job as there is not enough space to take remove and refit the bolts properly (hence me thinking it was the subframe that it needed to be lifted from).
Totalled my Classic
Bought a stop gap car that I ended up running around in for five years, missed the performance of the Scooby in that time but not the fuel and maintenance bills. Decided I needed something fast but practical (growing family) and fairly economical so ended up with the BMW uber diesel. It'll do for now
Thought about having a weekend toy but then figured I probably hardly ever use it, family gets all my spare time now. When I'm a bit older thought (and so are the kids) we'll see

Expanding family (two young 'uns now) so went for a boring and practical estate. Needed a big boot for the double buggy. It WAS boring so now looking to buy a nice practical newage STi again now one is walking
Should never have sold it!

So it seems the majority is either expanding families or fancying a change, I've only seen one mention of image and I partly agree with that. I'm sure the classic is a good car (never driven one) but it seems to me that classics have been hit hardest where image is concerned, there seems to be so many chavved up bags of **** being driven round by tracksuit wearing gangster wannabes its unbelievable

When image was mentioned I automatically assumed that he meant the rising amount of classics being bought cheap and then being ruined by owners that have the intelligence of the amniotic sack they were born in. I agree the hatch is a very marmite car but I really like it, just a pity the engine is supposed to be a bit weak
i will admit one of the few reasons i sold my classic was image. i got fed up with the
whenever it came up in conversation with someone that i had an impreza. soon realised after selling it how good they are, f**k image they are the dogs danglies.
also got rid because it had an intermittent fault, and it was time to move on and try something else.
i may move on from my s15 to a r32/r33 but i will soon be back to impreza after or before that.

i just found the blob to refined for a fun car yes good for long runs but not just as good as a classic for fun
