Would not recommend a 20g for a 2.0L. And defo not for a wrx, would recommend a 16/18g

I wouldn't recommend a 20G for a wrx. Its a cabable 400bhp turbo which is more power than you should be putting through a standard wrx motor.

20g on a new age wrx will be fine. I used to run one without a single incident for 5 years / 22k miles.

Mapped by JGM with various fuels, and in the end it spooled to 1 bar at around 3k in third gear onwards, full boost (1.5 bar) shortly afterwards (this with gt2 spec headers, which allegedly spool badly) on v-power only.

Unless you are going to exploit its full capabillities and have supporting mods already (or deep pockets) I'd say a VF turbo would be a better option for a WRX 2l

Right I have a 1995 fully forged 2.0 (pistons & rods etc), semi closed deck, with uprated oil pump, FMIC, and de-catted with Walbro, RCM lightened fly and Helix clutch.
I'll have top feed injectors, CDF racing top feed fuel rails (prob 550cc, currently have 440cc here), a tomei FPR, and will have wrapped tubular manifolds with up pipe.

I'm seriously considering a 20g to replace the 16g, would this be decent for my setup??
Would obviously be setup with an ESL and mapped properly, but I'm getting everything ready bit by bit.

I think 49ers will be close to maxed out and gearbox won't last long.

I use 550's, were fine with vpower but needed to add an adjustable fpr when had meth mapped in.

550's like he said.
To the OP - I wouldn't even bother looking at a 20g unless you've gone for 6 speed gearbox and uprated internals - 400bhp in a WRX probably won't last that long - it'll likely do a few years before crapping itself unless it's high mileage already.
An old WRX engine I know of that used to run 400ish is still going in another car....just 3-4 years on, but it sounds shocking.

However I completely disagree with the comment that a 20g is unsuitable for a 2.0 - I run one on my STI and it's fine.
The boost and bhp/ft/lbs graphs show the 20g spools up about 300RPM later than the vf35 I had on the car before *but* that's also having gone to a FMIC so tbh there's very little difference IMHO.

Made 382bhp on a nearly dead clutch and OEM ported headers - suspect I'd see a little more if I put the GT Spec 2 headers I've bought on and Simon had another play with it as it's running a bit rich.
A good 20g should make close to 400bhp; uprated ones, or ones with tweaked housings etc should make 400+.

Am changing mine to an SC42 billet soon though in the search for just "a little more"

I have 390bhp out of an SC38 billet (18g) on a newage 2.0 sti. FMIC, CAIK, decat exhaust, EL headers

You'll potentially see 400bhp with the right mods.
If not, just add a splash of meth! I've heard SC38's make over 400 with meth no problem.

To illustrate, a mate runs an SC42 billet. Made about 425/390 with VPower, and 472bhp on a 20% meth mix!

I followed AFP website,WRX (with 110k miles on the clock)
Sti TMIC etc, K&N, 650cc injectors, fuel pump, decat uppipe, Prodrive sports cat, 2.5" system with resonator, WRX Sport back box, s/h AFP TD05-20G turbo, exedy pink H1 clutch.

Conservative remap by AFP - 360bhp 350 ft/lbs spool up starts at 3k revs, max boost 3k8 rpm. Unless you take it to 7k+ revs you go off full boost slightly, but I certainly enjoy it for overtaking..
