Default Rebuild STi front struts?

On one of my front struts, 2003 Blob STi, the 14mm bolt at the bottom is loose. It won't tighten up, this is causing a knocking noise which is presumably the inner strut loose.

I've heard that to tighten this nut up you have to push down the strut and turn it, then you can tighten the lower nut. Thing is, will the inner strut be knackered?

Is it easy to rebuild these struts or just not worth it? they are Spec C so they apparently have different camber and the spring mount is 5mm lower. I'd really like to stick with them.

And NO I don't want coilovers before anyone mentions them.

Not sure but here's a general clunk fix, shows the bottom bolt process but when it's stripped
