Bugeye for project - Saloon or Wagon?
In two minds at the moment. My Mrs and I have decided to get a cheap bugeye, a two grand tops job, once the Spec D is sold. I'll have a 330D for work, and she will use the Scooby as she only does 4 miles a day!
Now, I love the practicality of a wagon, and they look a bit different, but I am stuck between a wagon and a saloon to be honest. I love the fact that the saloon has the same boxy arches as my Hawkeye, and is a similar looking car overall.
But then, I also like the wagon, despite the fact that it doesn't have wide arches. I've seen a few modified wide arch wagons, but IMO the rear arches just don't look quite right, so I don't think it's a mod I'd do.
Must admit, as much as I love the Hawkeye, I'm too scared of screwing anything up to do any work on it myself. Won't have that problem with a cheap Bugeye, and looking forward to getting my hands dirty again
I'll really miss the 6-speed box and DCCD though. Don't like a permanent 50/50 torque split as much

Hi there
Not sure for what you are looking from this new project.Power or looks etc.
If you are like the practicality of the wagon, then I would go with wagon, yes arches at rear are big minus for us too,but still changing the front arches from saloon/sedan and front bumper from saloon/sedan and car will looks much better
Performance wise,I would suggest have look for STi wagon, they're rare, but worth the extra have look for them,Brembo as standard,Red STi shocks and 6 speed, stronger engine with stronger internals etc. worth the extra
We are went with wagon and we are love the our wagon in every way

Usually people on the STi changing the brakes as first, but yes you can find the JDM STi still with OE 4 pots

Cheers folks. Been reading your build thread, Jura. Car looks great.
We won't have enough for an STi this time, but it will get tuned to around 300bhp and will get either STi shocks or coilovers. Going from my Hawk STi to a Bug WRX will be a bit of a shock, but better than no Scooby at all.
We will buy an STi again in the future.
I wanted to ask about the saloon front arches thing actually.... doesn't fitting them make the front of the car wider than the rear?

Really depends on your target and really WRX wagon is good car with right bits handling is really great, just would recommend if you will be upping the power Brembo will be good upgrade,OE 4 pots on wagon sometimes working overtime when you are pushing the wagon on the road
Yes front end will look wider than rear, but really front wings/fenders is great upgrade on the any New age wagon, just check pics of the standard wagon with narrow wings and wagon with wider WRX/STi wings

I really do like the saloon front wings but if that makes the front arches sit out wider than the rears, I may not be able to deal with it. I have serious OCD with that sort of stuff
Certain things just have to "right" or it drives me mad.
