Default Out of pocket again!

Where do I start!
The gearbox destroyed itself while I was in Aberdeen, luckily so I thought next to a local garage that said they would fix it
4 weeks later! The car was ready with a recon box exedy clutch and a bill for £2500!
I picked the car up and drove home 270 miles, it had no power at all and was using twice as much petrol
I drove straight to the sunderland subaru experts who drove it and said the intercooler wasn't connected right, they fixed it and said its fine now
I drove away and noticed high pitched noise under boost, so I took it back and said something on the intercooler must still be loose!
The subaru experts test drove the car, came back and said my turbo was knackered, £750 to have it reconditioned and fitted
I said it would have to wait as it was Xmas.
So I sourced a second hand turbo from the forum for £50
I took the car to my normal garage to be fitted, which they did straight away
I went to pick the car up and he said half the gear box bolts were loose, so he tightened them up
I drove off and there it was! The same high pitched noise as before
I went straight back and he looked at the intercooler and said there were 2 small bolts missing from the back, he hunted round and found a couple of bolts to use and bingo! All works fine, boosting well and no noise
But out of pocket for a turbo and fitting!

Yep they did, Aberdeen prices are always higher, but I did expect a good job
It's so hard to find a good garage you can trust!

It's down to the location and the oil industry up there

The Granite City is hardly Dallas Texas lol!

Do you mean the prices of pretty much everything up there? I have only ever driven through it on way to Loch Ness.

Shocking, sometimes those smaller garages are the best bet.

2500 is really over the top for that either way

Anyway we digress
How to you make a diagnosis of a knackered turbo, when it was only 2 intercooler bolts missing

Are you daft? Serious question.

You can get a complete 6 speed box, diffs, shafts etc for less than that.

And again , a guy takes his car too a specialist and gets s**t advice
This is all to common and shouldn't be put behind you

You pay and go to a specialist for a reason and a diagnosis of a failed turbo when it was a basic fault is very wrong and fortunately didn't result in the op paying the £750 and being even more out of pocket

This is not acceptable at all , the fault the op had was a basic fault which should have been spotted with ease , by any half decent garage never mind a specialist

It has nothing to do with being clever , it's basics
It makes my p*** boil

What specialist in Aberdeen?

Yep - they seen you coming - £1300 for a standard WRX box??

Aberdeen is no dearer than any other part of the country.

Paul, you've been well and truly raped!

Last 5 speed box that went into mine was around 900 quid fitted including a new clutch.

I couldn't give a **** if it was Aberdeen, £1200 covers a clutch, fitting and return shipping to Glasgow at least 3 times!

Edit to add: 4 weeks later! I blew my box up one Sunday and was kicking the **** out of my car the following Sunday at SSO.

It's about time company's. / garages stop seeing ££££ every time a Scooby breaks ,
The op could have paid 3k in repairs when it should have been 1k max

It's a big joke

Yep I know that now
But you live and learn
And when I phoned him about his poor quality work he offered me 100 quid back!

I'd want a very detailed explanation of why the box was that much and more than £100 and I would also want the company who diagnosed the turbo fault wrongly to contribute to the turbo and fitting costs
If no joy I'd be naming and shaming to the max

About right , quit , sacked or hiding
I know it's hassle and you've probably got better things to be doing than chasing after compensation you probably won't get
But all to often folks just let things drop and forget
But folks need to start kicking off and making a point otherwise they will keep getting away with ripping folk off

Put it in perspective , you were charged for your box as much as my 01 bug with mods cost !!!!!

Absolutely disgusting

If it's Eclipse, and I'm fairly certain it is, then

A 500bhp/6 speed yadda yadda car built by them couldn't keep up with mine off a roundabout. Tosser driving it had tail gated me for 1/2 a mile on a dual carriage way, so I said BYE.

You certainly payed a premium for that box and for them to leave your IC badly fitted is bad.

You should of put a post up looking for help, myself or one of the other Aberdeen guys could of pointed you in the direction of a decent place to take the car or get the parts from..
