Cylinder 3 the hottest?...
Hi all,
Why is it regarded that cylinder 3 runs the hottest?
Is this on any particular model, or all Subarus?
As I look into the engine bay from the front, what numbers are the cylinders?
Cheers,
Matt

It's not regarded, it's a known fact, to do with the design of the engine.**
It's on all Subaru flat four engines.
Looking in under the bonnet from the front, cylinder No3 is the driver's side rear.
**It's for that reason that Subaru include a tapping over that cylinder to take a sender for an oil TEMPERATURE gauge.

Its at the end of the line in every respect, so when oil pressure/temp, coolant temp and fuel pressure are marginal its number three that suffers.
A parallel fuel supply will prevent the biggest killer, which is lean running causing termical big end failure.
