Default Hy all back again

Just bought an impreza, ~Pick it up tommorow. Its got a 2.1 STI engine with a HKS stroker kit, but standard air box, ( have to change that ) I am told its 300+ any ideas of what the performance will be like and what the BHP is likely to be. Yes I know how longs a piece of string.

Many thanks Steve.

PS errrm still havent had a go at the glue residue on the WRX.

oops, picked it up, lazy starter but did start, drove back from up north cruising 80 + but no response from turbo if I accelerate, found it was low on water when I got down here, and yes I do mean water, he told me it hasnt been remapped although the engine had been recently fitted and a new ecu was put in. So methinks I bought a pup.

drove it back from chorley to devon in four hours through all the foul weather, it flew but on pressing the accelerater at 80/90 nothing just lots of noise but little acceleration our lasses wrx accelerates very well at that speed I was alongside her in the sport special at over 80 and she accelerated away and left me for dead, so summat wrong probably the turbo also the dump valve is faulty so lots to sort out,

errrm thats the beauty, or not of buying off ebay. I buy, I pay, I drive.

It goes like stink, very fast, but its just not turboing or losing the pressure somewhere.

on a side note I need to upgrade the brakes does anyone have four pot/two pot calipers and discs for sale.

You got a link to it?
Maybe someone knows the car and could tell you if it's either minor faults or someone has pulled your pants down with it bud

By way of explanation the engine was newly dropped in from an STI

heres another update, its running a standard wagon ecu, which I am told is unmappable, I reckon the seller pulled the uprated one, the braid on the ecu was cut so it was shutting down, its now repaired, so I took it for a spin.

OMFG.

Our lasses WRX is rated at 280, hers is marginally faster initially on heavy acceleration from a standing start, but this beast will easily leave her behind.

There is a straight near us with no houses on it, its not long but ideal as a test track, the WRX from a standing start I can get to 95 before having to start slowing, this beast half way along 100+ such a big smile on my face. I just had to turn around and do it again.

So without stripping it I cant be sure but assume it must have the stroker kit fitted to have that power unmapped.

Now for another ask theres a guy on ebay selling due to an upgrade, the calipers and discs from a 2002 wrx also the ecu,

would the calipers and discs fit the 96 wagon and would the ecu be suitable for the engine.

As to price I now dont think I overpaid, although needing work it has a long mot, and I am happy to wave bye as I leave the missuses WRX behind at £1500, I will probably have to spend about another thou on it but the smiles are worth it.

Mock all you like, the powers there, the ecu number has been checked and its unmappable, so its old and I assume must be the original for the wagon.

hmmm just a thought,

no. noone would rechip an unmappable ecu.

Although having said that, as it has an intercooler scoop on the bonnet it must have been turbo originally, but then why the bog standard brakes, it also has graphite wolfrace 17" wheels by the way, although I am going to take them off and put the 17" silver split rims on.

So it's had a build some time and never been mapped??? And yet you are racing it around in WOT. Hmm how long before it goes bang, hence the tick tock comments.

Best bet would be to take it to enginetuner in plymouth and let Martyn take a look at it before you push it too much !

Sounds like you have no idea what you've bought and it's not what you think it is.

I didn't think HKS did a 2.1 stroker, they did a 2.2 and that was around £3K just for the kit. so with the rebuild that over over £5K

There would be next to no chance of getting a car with that engine in for £1500

It sounds to me that a standard STI engine is in there, nothing special.

The increase in speed, could simply be a larger turbo with the boost turned up via a manual boost controller.

Have to wait and see, there is an oil leak from somewhere so when it comes back from the garage they may know more. I wouldnt have thought a standard sti would have such a big power differential over a wrx, but who knows. I just know its fast through the complete range apart from as I say initial take up of power, its still fast but the WRX just has the edge, but, only on initial take up nowhere else.

See noone has commented on whether the 2002 wrx brakes will fit a 96 wagon.

As I said earlier the engine came out of an sti , I was told its had a stroker kit fitted, maybe has maybe not, it was put into the wagon then sold uncompleted, he did say he had fitted a new ecu but I reckon he has whipped that back off before I picked it up.

I dont think a run up the road at the garages request to check it out, (yes they probably didnt mean go full on ) is going to bust the bank,

So in all I drove it back from Chorley to devon without the turbo spooling and two blasts up the road aint I naughty.

Think I wont bother posting again if everyones so judgemental. rather than helpful. bye
