diesel imprezas
after much consideration of what to replace my bugeye with, going through insignias, accords, civics and others I suddenly thought of the impreza diesel. But I have noticed that they seem at the moment like chickens teeth, is it that there isnt many or is it the time of year?
I'd love to be able to stay in a subaru

there is a diesel Legacy and outback available too if you want to stay Subaru.... but a word of warning.... take a decent test driver first.
I had an Outback diesel on test drive. I could of kept it all day but returned to the dealership after just a few hours. The diesel engine IMO is gutless. There is no real surge of power but more of a constant (and VERY slow) gain of speed.
I accept that I am used to a 380 bhp 2.5 STI.... and I accept that the Outback will be a lot heavier and slower that an Impreza but nontheless I found it to be one of the most useless diesel engines I have ever driven.
Each to their own, but if I even consider giving up my STI then the only other Subaru I will consider (test drive still pending) is a 3.0R Legacy spec B tourer (purely for the extra space - not fuel saving).
Don't change your car to save fuel.... change your driving style.

Do a search on my threads on the wrxd
I have owned one of the few in the uk for over 3 years 41k miles since new
And also run a classic impreza too so think I'm better qualified then the posts above
There is a nice one for sale at my local dealership Stan palmers if it still there when I was getting my fluids topped up on the wrxd by Rob who services the car for me and is rated as one of the top Subaru technicians in the UK and he can also give his opinions
There is lots of diesel haters on scoobynet and there is only 3/4 of us who have got them but I quite like mine

I did the same change.
The Honda Civic was the closest I found to a diesel which also gave that 'urge' of the Impreza ..... a neck snapping 340Nm's!!!
It makes me smile everday!

I am in a similar position to Lord Harding , having owned a Legacy iv diesel for 3 years, and a stage one blob sl wagon for 2; the wagon is fun and practical, but there is no way I`m going to drive it for longer than 2 hours, due to noise, back killing ride, and half the range. After a 8 hour drive through Europe, I`ll arrive in the diesel in one piece, having only just stopped to fill up, still happy that I have had the Subaru awd experience. You diesel slaggers have both modified your cars, so presumably you were dissatisfied with their original spec; it`s the same with the boxer diesel, a quick remap transforms its usability. It`s also very different from the competitors 2 liter diesels, being much smoother and quieter off load, although it can sound rough when cold. I have recently driven a new diesel Forester, which may have lacked the x factor overall, but the motor was one of its plus points. So Tommy, back your negative statement up there, and help the OP out.

Very rare
Think there was less then 200 in the uk
Since new
Service costs every 12k miles £220- £250
No problems whatsoever
Average mpg is always 480-500 per tank 45/46 mpg on average
And I don't hang about short fast blasts to work
And maybe a long 200 mile drive every month which gaves 48 mpg
Never had over 50pmpg though but it is a performance car
1/2 gear waste of time won't beat the boy racers at traffic lights
3rd hear 30-90 awesome
4th 50/110 super
Never use 5th and 6th ok for overtaking but 4th most fun
Very relaxed drive compared to petrol and very refined at 80-100 mph
Slightly noisy 1/2nd gear just like all diesels
Handleing a bit soft for my liking compared to my classic
Steering excellent
Build quality excellent
Equipment levels high
Seats and driving position great
Gear box ok
Performance excellent and like for like the same as my classic turbo once I get it into high revs second or third
Looks fantastic
Miss the Subaru Burble but dont miss 250 per tank compared to 500 every time with the wrxd
Get it mapped to 300lb torque and 400 nm ad you have serious performance car
Disadvantage
Price I paid 23k for mine including extras then it went up to 25k
Worth 09/59 now 13k depending on mileage but very few up for sale
Not many in wR blue / remo red on the roads
Insurance group 13 I pay £240 fully comp protected
No cam belt to change neither
Practical
Options I have on it
Gt1 wheels in gold for summer
STi rear spoiler
STi grill
Sunsport front grill set
Carbon graphics
Carbon window and tailgate surrounds l
Strut brace
Remapped
Tints
Future plans When I stop spending on my Greenwagon
Front STi lip spoiler
Twin exhausts and finishers
Firmer springs and suspension
Black Carbon graphics on my 17 wheels
Plastics on engine trim dipped in something special

Sorry i was on about the Octavia vrs, I just wish they would drop a bigger motor in the wrxd. Couldn't spend an extra 4-5k just to have another subaru. Both are good cars but subaru don't have the parts bin to get the price down and build spec up

Yes before my wrxd I ran a Octavia L&K diesel
Excellent car ran it for 6 years 72 k miles
Fantastic car 55 mpg with 59 on a long journey
Nothing went wrong with it apart from rust on the tailgate which was sorted under warrenty
And lot of car for the money
Skodas are good value compared to Subaru
Octavia Vrs excellent car and superb seats
