Default Which Legacy Do I Want?

Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Looking for a fast estate that's wife + toddler friendly for weekends away, etc. Been looking for an Impreza wagon SL spec for ages but haven't found one that was 'right', so I have decided to consider Legacies . . . of which I know nothing, (I sort of understand Imprezas . . . I had a Blobeye WRX PPP for a year). I have driven a fairly basic 2 litre Legacy and was impressed. Alternatives are Volvo V70 T5, Saab 9-3 HOT, maybe even a BMW 3 Series estate.

I want leather, manual transmission and decent performance, but I'm not a power junkie! Budget up to £6k, although prefer to spend less.

So . . . what spec and model Legacies should I look at?

3.0R Spec B would fit the bill I'm sure. Hunting for a decent one myself.

Prodrift on ebay always have very tidy TT Legacys for sale; otherwise ask on UK Legacy.com. Good luck, good ones are fine cars

I just sold my auto GTB and it made my 550bhp Newage look good mpg wise... Thirsty cars when on boost

Having had a TT for a while, converted it to single turbo and had lots of fun with it...
1) Do you need the extra room a legacy gives you? If not get an impreza wagon
2) If you do want the space, consider upping your budget a bit and getting prodrift to find you the later 2.0 single turbo.

TTs are great when working, but suffer with low boost gremlins and can be a PITA, a good single turbo outperforms a TT setup in just about every way.

That said, I love my legacy, its fast, practical and understated.

All just my opinion.

Thanks - saw these on Pistonheads, but I really "need" full leather - also the model descriptions confused the hell out of me - "BH5 GTB E-Tune II Model", which is why I started asking questions.

Well, I possibly don't need the extra space, just a mid sized estate. I'll probably carry on looking for an Impreza wagon in parallel to widen the options, but I haven't found a good one in months of looking in the time I have after work and child care (we both work full time) . . . drove 150 miles to look at one that sounded perfect - blue bugeye, SL spec, full history, sub 80,000 miles - had a look underneath and can only assume he'd used it for launching boats in salt water . . . my wife's non Turbo 130,000 mile saloon of the same year is spotless underneath but this was a nightmare.

So I want a single turbo Legacy . . . what list of model codes and years should I stick to?

Awesome car IMO - i've had 2 and love my current one to bits. Practical but superbly comfortable for long trips and loads of room inside. Drives and handles well - a little thirsty if you have a heavy right foot, which I do....!

JDM Spec B GT 2004 onward. 280 bhp on a twinscroll. I had WR LTD model. Awesome, I'll post some pics.

Red STi sweep clocks, Eco Mode Button, Electric Seats, Bilstein Shocks and springs, HID's, 30 MPG + on a run, digital gauges (on mine anyway), JDM twinscroll with 280 bhp standard (without a re-map), excellent build quality and not many about.

Loads of cubbies under the boot floor, reclining rear seats with remote drop down realease, heated wipers's, privacy glass and load cover for the boot.

Brilliant sleeper and made a few big German performance estates look twice .

Trooper; and rarer than hens nipples! I thought about yours for a long time. Ron, that`s the mpg screen that is part of the built in sat nav that you get on UK Ren models MKIV Legacys. Still biding my time for a 6 speed 06 onwards GTB-dream on !

Digital Boost, Oil Temp and Pressure, it's also a Sat Nav, games and all sorts but loaded with Japanese maps . It's compatable with the DNX stuff though but needs some tweakery to get it going.

I ended up fitting the DNX 7200 and the facia adaptor kit as the multi CD/Radio combo is connected to the AC unit and as the limited band range for the radio. Subaru UK deny all knowledge of an OE adaptor from Subaru but I have a spare Dual Zone Legacy BL/H kit from Japan in the garage.
