Default wide track blob eye

First thing is, is the widetrack worth the extra money compared to a normal blob eye? say 03 plate? I prefer them for the dash look more than anything although the dccd could be fun, is it actually any good? (ill prob never use it, lol) so if i could get over the dash bit i could get a non widetrack.
secondly im wondering what the opinion of the above car is with the prodrive pack on? i know people say its better to get it re-mapped etc and it will be better but i would want to keep it factory standard so with or without PPP and no other mods. The insurance i have been quoted is around £150 more a year for ppp so is the 50bhp worth that? does it effect clutch life or mpg?

seperate question, with granny driving what can be achieved mpg wise?

well i would say, if you can afford the widetrack model buy it, as you will kick yourslef after wishing you had, it might not be something you use daily but it has its uses, say the snow we just had made a big difference, PPP i would say it is good to have then when you come to map it, the parts are already fitted that you then have to fit to a non PPP,

average MPG driving like mr magooo i get 17-19 around towns 80miles a weeks

mpg wise it's around £65 to £70 to fill up the tank, and we generally get around 200 miles to a tank which is lots of short journeys and around town, long motorway journeys takes this up to around 250 miles to a tank.

As was once said to me, "buy the best you can afford" so if it's not a stretch then get the wide track, it will be easier to sell and hold it's money better.

As for the ppp, i have it on my blob wrx and i like it, good safe map with plenty of mid range torque.

Get yourself a boost gauge, then if you keep it off boost you can average 28mpg around town and 33/35 on a run, but you do have to pay attention to achieve those figures, but as soon as you boot it those numbers go out the window, i get 25/28 with the odd blip to show the boy racers a clean pair of heels at the lights.

How did you managed that - tow it?

Even off boost I won't do 30 mpg.

That was commuting to work over 4 days, 40 miles each way of A roads. Just keeping it off boost and general eco driving.

Never said i average that! - Also as fuelly is an american site you need to click on 'UK' in the top left otherwise it shows US MPG which is worked out differently

When i was using it daily my average was about 29 MPG but since its now a weekend/trackday toy the MPG is ALOT lower

Its pretty easily to regularly get 30+ out of an STi if you use it daily, just drive it like a normal car! One my last but one trackday i got 31.7 driving down to Donington from north Wales and 10.5 on track

Maybe you need to read your graph and log.
You have got nowhere near 30mpg.

And still nowhere near 30 mpg.
Doing it once is not an average.
Cars use more around town, short trips etc.
Obviously long trips at 60 mph will return the best mpg.
But normal use wont return this mpg

Welcome back mate, hope you didn't move any where near me.

I see your responses are as diplomatic as ever.

So as above it would seem i'm not alone in being able to get 33mpg and others have better average than 28mpg.

Like i said the key is staying OFF boost, to do this you NEED a boost gauge and you NEED to watch what it's doing, i also coast down a few hills when in traffic, no sense in being at circa 2k rpm when you can do the same speed at 800 rpm.

This approach saves fuel and pads for when i'm giving it some, and i kind of get a kick out of seeing how much mpg i can get.

Mine is a WRX PPP but i doubt theres a major difference between it and a standard STI.

Yours is not an sti so its the same apart from gear ratios smaller injectors and turbo etc.
Not really a comparison then.
I had a wrx in the past though and i do agree its achievable on a wrx.
Shame we are discussing the sti.

The graph is only your last 10-15 fuel ups and as its been a toy for a year of course it'll average nothing like 30+mpg!

Anyway atleast someone here knows what im talking about. I've always been able to exceed the quoted MPG figures on all of my cars. People who moan about the manufactures MPG figures being crap need to look at how they drive!

Not really, the guy agreeing with you has a different car.
I dont believe an average of 30mpg is acheivable in an sti and the only way to get anywhere near would be so dull you may as well get a diesel.

Whats the point in driving everwhere below 2000rpm and never using boost. If thats your idea of fun buy a prius.

20 ish is the average for normal drivers in a normal driving style

I still used to get similar figures in my STI Type r.

And my retort is, whats the point in gassing every where only to stamp on the brakes at the next set of lights or junction.

Contrary to popular belief the uk's roads are not a race track, i save my car and fuel for the track/ odd spirited B road blast, i long since gave up on trying to get anywhere quickly in any uk city, i just leave earlier and chill when i'm driving around town.

I get my entertainment out of watching idiots speed all over the place and then i coast by them at the next lights or roundabout, whilst seeing what mpg i can get.

On my 2003 Blob STi, 350bhp Andy F remap I get between 26-28mph around town and 31-32mpg on a long run.

That's driving sensibly with an occasional blast. You CAN get these figures from an STi...

I average 18mpg with mixed driving, crusing and the odd blast here and there , The best i have ever had and i`ve only had it once is 25mpg and that was when i went to TOTB this year and i only just managed to get to the petrol station as i got just over 49L in the tank meaning i only had 500ml-1L left in it!!! I`d say the real world average is around 18-22 mpg obviously you could better it but it`s all depending on the state of tune and how heavy the right foot is

Oh....Get the widetrack if you can afford it as like its been said its the best UK 2.0L Impreza out there
