Default 06-07 WRX Engine

Hi All,

As mentioned in another thread I’m getting a WRX again but I see everyone keeps talking about the 2.5 engine going but that seems to be on the WRX STI 08 (new shape) onwards.

So does this meant the 06-07 WRX is the same thing?

Sorry if this is mentioned before but I can’t see anything specific it all seems to be STI’s

Cheers

I think the standard 2.5 WRX is reliable with few issues. Once tuned to STI or above power levels i would think they would also suffer . With the 2.5 i would say keep it standard or forge it. I was not just the hatch sti's that suffered but the problem was made worse by a dodgy map than on previous models.
Forged pistons and ARP cylinder studs solve the issues and made the 2.5 into a good reliable road car with monster torque.

Thanks Chopper

So a conversion like that would cost a few bob then?

I really only want the car as an all rounder. Either that or dig deep and buy a 09 M3 or save the cash and buy an old WRX 07ish for 7isk. But don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Weird dilema

From what I read and hear you don't have to worry about the engine until well after the gearbox gives up, which is around the 340-360 mark for most.

I'm aiming to upgrade my 06 WRX Wagon with PPP to 300-320 with one of Scooby Clinic's upgraded TD04 turbos (plus exhaust/remap) as soon as funds allow, to be on the safe side.

The hawk wrx has the best of the 5 speed gearboxes in it but not as good as the 6 speed. I know of 2 other hawk wrxs with over 100k on them and no engine or gearbox issues.
