Extended warranties for European Imports
#3
I purchased my 3yr old STI with a Warranty Holdings 12months parts and labour. As they never break down I thought I would never have to use it.
Wrong. They do break down, just less than other highpowered cars. My third gear snapped under normal driving. Cost over 1k to fix. Warranty paid so I was lucky. The third gear broke beacuse it was originally machined too thin (or something like that). Not through nutter driving.
I believe you can extend these warranties for around £185 per year or £285 to include turbo and aircon.
Its a trade off in the end. Always remember sods law (It won't break if you have cover, but will if you don't).
If it is a standard European 215bhp car. I wouldn't bother with extra. If it is a WRX or STI - its worth it!!

I agree with KRS - my car had a replacement gearbox under warranty at 9500 miles as a consequence of excessive noise in 1st/2nd.
Otherwise it would have been £2707 for the gearbox excluding labour Kerrrching!
Cheers,
Alex

motor warranty direct do cover on uk/eur as well as imported imprezas... circa £230 year for Gold cover (some claim limits) and £260 for platinum cover (unlimited) - they also do deals on servicing which can save you a lot of cash - thus clawing back some of the cost of the warranty - an essential for jap imports in my oppinion. Above includes recovery /breakdown cover with Green Flag.
