Upgrading my ****!!
I know exactly what you are thinking but sorry to disappoint, however looking to upgrade MY **** the gear type of course, so is the thread 12mm for WRX 2005?
If I have to purchase one that needs adaptors & grub screws would anyone recommend them?

EEEUUUWWWW! That's horrid.
Yes, thread is M12 coarse.
Personally I HATE the ones with grubscrews, there is never enough "meat" in the metal they pass through to get them tight enough.
My Momo **** suffered from that. I turned a bit of steel that was an EXACT fit for inside the **** and a sliding fit over the threads. I then Araldited and pinned it in place in the ****, redrilled and tappped M6, and used short stainless socket head bolts instead of grubscrews. Looked good and was rock solid.
Sadly, no pics.
