Unless the running in stuff has changed it use to be under 4000rpm for the first 1000 miles and then the dealer serviced it to remove the running oil and you are then advised to build the revs up gradually over the next few hundreds miles. Just remember not to labour the engine which is a big NO NO on a new engine and to keep it under 3000 rpm until the engine is very warm (can take 15 minutes ). Always let the car cool down and idle for at least a minute at the end of your journey. If its anyhting liek my two imprezas they don start to free rev until you have 5K miles on the clock.
I am sure someone will tell you to nail it from day one as it will give you an extra 5 bhp but take 50,000 miles off your engine life

I know Subaru are very firm about the run-in period for the STI after at least one engine blow up in the first 1000 miles.
Mine has 8.5K on now (bought on 1st Feb) and it did not become loose until 4K and really came on song about 6K. Keep it under 4Krpm until the first service and gradually build up from there. Use the shift light / buzzer to keep you in line.
Ignore the "give it a blast" brigade and treat it with some respect.
