I hear what you're saying Rog!
I'm not looking for big power, just 450/450-500 in the strongest build I can on my 2.5 ltr.
So it's opinions & experience i'm after, as the cost of the CDB inserts when combined with a 14mm or 12/14mm head stud conversion, with heads skimmed as well.... isn't that much really..!
So in your experience, the CDB inserts also need the liners pinned??

To answer you question mate. It's pinning or inserts mate. Inserts being the better but far more expensive option.

Iggy, its an either or for the "inserts" or "pegging" - not both...............
we have done 30+ casings now however a lot seem to be longer term builds
we have a lot of serious race customers so little road type use - one particular road customer is now over 600 and 2BAR with no issues

Well Rob didn't pin his liners as no body was really doing it back then and his engine is fine in the mid 4's. I had mine pinned as it was part of the re-build deal but im not aiming for anything higher than 420-430 bhp in mine as a final target. I just don't need any more to be honest, i find 360's plenty for the roads where i live When the vf43 wears out i will replace with something like an sc42 and map to around 420. Unless your going north of that pinning, CDB inserts and even forged rods are not really needed. 11mm studs are also plenty and far cheaper as you don't need the machining work.

not trying to turn you off doing it mate, it will be good to see another RB monster but you need to ask yourself what you want from the car before you start the project.

Im coming upto about 25k and my exhaust housing hasn't cracked yet. from what i have read it doesn't really cause a problem when it does. If i were you ian i would stay under 500bhp. Above 450 your looking at serious money. Not just the engine build but fuel pump, injectors, front mount, cold air induction, probaly swirl pot ,pressure reg ect. Upto 450 for normal road use all your standard stuff should be fine.

That will scare the life out of you mate While i love the burble of our cars i went out in Bob Rawles with equal length headers and twin scroll and it sounded ace. Im thinking of going single scroll sc42. Im after quick spool rather than peak power. Quick spool is a must if you live in southampton. We have more traffic lights per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Traffic light grand prix is my fav past time

i have a 2.5 not pinned or linned running 435bhp and 486ftlbs of torque with an aet gt30 hybrid turbo and had no issues with liners or block and mine is an open deck its been run for 5k miles now

I don't doubt it mate. Personally i will only do it when the vf43 needs replacing and i would be only looking into a bolt on, re-map a go. The sc42 being a better replacement than a std vf43 and an upgrade. Iggy on the other hand is probably starting his mid life crisis now (i had mine years ago) and is going to build his trusty Rb320 into a new neck snapping toy.
