Hi all,

Just gone out to my MY99 V6 Sti and it won't go into gear! Apart from the fact it's just ruined my plans for Saturday night I'm a bit concerned as I need it Monday am.

It's been parked up for the week but ran a 4 mile errand earlier today without issues. Have experienced some slight clutch judder in the past but otherwise never missed a beat and no signs of slipping under heavy acceleration. Recently been for MOT with a well respected Scooby specialist up here and there was no mention of impending failure (He normally keeps me well abreast of any possible future issues).

The pedal feels fine it's just not working the clutch somehow. Changing to overalls to go and have a look but any advice/things to check/etc greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the release bearing could be knackered

Oh! That's not good then. Just had the IC off and checked the movement of the linkage. I'm assuming these clutches are auto adjusting - in any case no slipping that would indicate this to be the cause of the problem.

I'm guessing it's going to be IC back on again and get it towed to Brian's for a repair! He will be chuffed

Yes, a bit notchy but otherwise ok

what happens when you put it into gear, with the clutch in and try starting it?

I have very similar issues with mine, I'm hoping it's the slave or master gone. Haven't had mine looked at yet

It lurches like the starter is moving the car so obviously it will engage the gear when the engine is not running.

Did you get any further with yours Blackvenom?

No the car is in bits in the garden, just spend 3 days trying to get the decat off for the mot, it's been on the last 7 years but won't pass this year! Right dog job, now I have the wrong cat so 3 wasted days! Bloody thing

Well chaps, spoke to Brian this morning and he is scratching his head also! He thinks something might have dropped to bits inside the gearbox but not immediately obvious what the issue is.
Sounds expensive. Will keep you posted blackvenom

Cheers, she's my pride and joy! Since moving to Scotland I've got a few stone chips and issues with my calipers led to the alloys getting marked but hopefully taking her off the road for winter to restore to near mint condition as per when I purchased 2 years ago. Gotta love the classics

Yes growing up its always been a classic I wanted, tho the blob sti is growing on me. That was my plan this winter, was going to do a full respray, interior and alloy refurb. Helps as that's what I did for a job till this month when lost my job :S. but as soon as I get another I will get mine garaged

Ahh well if my company relocates me to our Norwich base which they may in the future, you may be a handy chap to know blackvenom!
Owning a classic was a 10-year dream for me so not ready to change her yet but the new shape Sti does take my fancy...a few pay days away yet though! More Scoobys up in Aberdeen than you can shake a stick at - unfortunately the vast majority own but don't really subscribe to the community spirit that goes with an Impreza that I was used to in the Midlands

Hi all, just to tie up the thread, sorted the clutch problem - the RAC were in attendance a few minutes ago - it was down to a stuck clutch plate.
Plenty of rocking in gear and a few turns on the starter both in first and reverse and its released ok.
Apparently normally an issue if the car has been parked up in a damp atmosphere for a while but as this happened to mine only 4 hours after it was last run and there's no signs of moisture under the bonnet, not sure how this could apply to mine. Wonder if there's a build up of clutch dust in there??
Anyway, cheap fix!!

My classic used to to do this as it was left in the garage for long periods of time. They can take awhile to get to unstuck can't they.

Ahh super_ted where were you two weeks ago mate you'd have saved me £230 on hire cars :S !!
At least I know now!! Yeah he had to rock it a few times which I wouldn't want to be doing too much as it's harsh on the starter. I had tried it myself in accordance with gazzawrx's suggestion but didn't do reverse-1st-reverse etc. as the RAC guy did.
No signs of moisture under the bonnet any ideas how it gets into the clutch housing??
