Blowing bulbs!! Why?? every other car I have owned it would be really unusual to have bulbs pop

The Scoobie however!! Side lights go regular, numberplate bulbs blow them selves up and now, tonight, I notice that I have a switch illumination bulb out!!!

Why? Why? Why?

Do the switches (the Fog lamp switches) just pop out to replace bulb?

try earthing the thing properly.

the earth on the scoob is pretty crap, there are kits out there that can improve this masively. This is especially so if your into car Hi-Fi systems.

no mate, thats because of all the static from your 1970's polyester v neck jumpers you love to wear.

Do a search, errrmmm, have a look through the BBS, it's been covered before.

I tread with fear answering anything from such an "esteemed" member , but maybe this will help (OK - it's a Legacy, but the layout is identical):

http://www.lumine.net/subaru/legacyb...earthing2.html

Huge overkill on the cabling, but you never know...

Hope this helps

I agree with John. You have built up so much static electricity from spending hours punching the keyboard making sarcastic, inane remarks to other peoples threads.

they make you look an even bigger ***** pete.

then again, is that possible?

Gold wheels will improve matters, Gold has the lowest electrical resistance, much better than silver.

Blowing bulbs, might be worth checking the voltage regulator on the alternator.. had a similar proble on a MKII golf - cost £13 to fix.

Pete,
The good news from Subaru about the fog lights is that the bulbs do come out but - wait for it - they don't sell them....
Yes, you have to buy the whole switch!!
There must be someone out there who knows the Maplins catalogue well, to say which bulbs will do.

Why fanny arround doing stupid things like in that website posted above, Uprate the cable to the car itself... and then check the resistance this will tell you every thing... There is no way those cables need to be that size... if they did then why is the positive cable so small?

Thumbs up

Should have got an import the wiring looms are better . Actually I had a UK for two years and my import for 18 months now and I have replaced the headlights on the import because I wanted improved lighting not because the had blown. If fact the bulbs are still fine and good for backup purposes. The 98 UK I never put a single bulb in 2 years.

One sensible answer - thanks AJbaseBloke!! The only one to pick up on the fact that I am an esteemed member too!!

Why would I have all the trappings of a 70's Sex God Jon - when my Youth was the 50's?? Knuckle dusters, switchblades, bikes and chains .......... they dont generate static do they?

So? its a earthing fault - whats wrong with one of those dangly things that rub along the road then??

Pete
