Just wondered how many members are running WRX estates as a 2nd car? I'm really considering it as every time I start looking for a run-about/work car I always end up at WRX estates.

I know there not the best for mpg but they do offer the more practical side of things. Should I look else where or are they a good option? Seen a few blobeyes with FSH at around 89k for £2999 which seems ok.

I'm running a wrx wagon as my daily drive as I needed space for the dog, so I kinda get where you're coming from. Thinking about it, if you did get a wagon as a second more practical car, then you could in theory transfer certain parts from your saloon car to the wagon if and when you upgrade the saloon. Running two Scoobys would be costly tho...

 

Get a wagon, drop a sti lump in and running gear, simples

 

I'm running a Legacy GTB as my 2nd car

 

i used to have one as a snd car, now it is my main one. With the back seats folding down u can get a fair bit of stuff in - very handy for going to the tip !!

 

Second that I loved my legacy gtb

 

I have a wrx wagon with ppp with ap 4 pots on the front, lighter and faster than a standard sti, better gearing and much more comfortable day to day and very practical.

As long as your not going above 330/350bhp and doing lots of track days/ quarter miles they are fantastic, add some handling mods and its happy days.

But i also have an sti type r tucked away in the garage awaiting some special treatment.

 

i have a gravel express wagon for my daily , good for the dog , still quick ,can chuck wheels in and its good for deliveries etc

 

I have an 04 blob eye wagon now running 345/349 as a second car. It's lot's of fun to drive & catches the odd poser in much more expensive cars out
Just make sure you upgrade the brakes before you up the power.

 

Just got my 3rd scoob, blob wagon SL PPP that is meant as a 2nd car, had it 12ish days and its just seen the garage, time to use the derv for a bit
Never had a prob with previous scoobs and this looks and sounds okay so looking forward to my blasts out again, the mx5 just don't do it

 

Hmm am very tempted I'll be honest.

Just need to convince the missus it's a everyday practical car and that I won't be modding it :s Unless its for safety of course then a set of k-sports wouldn't go a miss

Yes pal,defo recommend a wagon their a plesure to drive,an if its standard i dont recon ther that bad on fuel.mine was givin me 28.5mpg local.until i started the modds.

Wagon as second car is great idea,but still think Legacy,which has have James@Anger will be good choice,still fast enough and still nice handling

Have a STI5 wagon i use as a winter runabout and the odd tip run - rarely drive it now.

 

They certainly are a practical car...



Perfect for my Great Dane too.

Now sold, but I want another one.

 

Surely if you just want a runabout/work car/load carrier you are better off with a Focus or Astra estate.

A lot cheaper on fuel/insurance/spares than a WRX! Isn't that the main point of a runabout?

 

have run a Fozzie Turbo-S for about 10yrs now (and before that Leggy single Turbo estates).......cracking fun and fits as much in as you can need / far more practical than a hatch

Agree with Alyn, Ive had imp estates, fozzies and leggys .... the imps arent as cavernous as youd think, and with the rear lights impeding on the aperture you dont get anywhere near as much in as a legacy!

In standard trim they arent as sharp and precise as an imp, but on a long cruise theyre a really nice place to be.

£3k goes a very long way in the leggy and fozzy market too!

and f1fan "you are better off with a Focus or Astra estate" .... downside being you have to drive round in a focus or astra! A little more cash on a proper car is worth it in the long run! :-)

 

It's not a little more cash though is it? You can have one for half the price, it uses half the fuel and costs half as much to service and repair and half as much to insure. If you have one decent motor why bother paying over the odds for a runabout/workhorse/

-You can get a reet good legacy for next to nowt ,..... or you can get a really nice 2004 2.5NA for the numbers that have been mentioned!

-NA leggys are pretty good! not to diesel levels, but not too bad either! Plus, theres some crackin LPG cars about!

-Goes wrong half as often and costs the same to repair as theyre easyer to work on and therefore loads less labour! Therefore negligable difference to service!

-Im talking legacy's here not imps, so they havent been tagged with the chav banner, so insurance is alot more reasonable.
