Car insurance. WTF

Car insurance. WTF
Just cancelled my insurance as they didnt cover modded cars (didnt know prior to buying last week).
After much phoning and explaining PPP (!) to various insurance companies I have gone with the parent company of the one I have just cancelled!
They tell me the mods were done prior to me buying so I dont need to have them listed.
They say its all about money, if I did the modifications it would add more value to the car covered on the policy when I take it out, so if I value it at 4k and modify to at a cost of 1k this then takes the value up. As it was done prior it doesnt matter.
They say the modifications will not be listed on my policy

did do, no where near the one I just took out but they was very helpful and did appear to try and get the quote down
its a right game this insurance lark
Just shows what can be done
You phone up and say oh its been modified, £££s extra in the insurance eyes but if they phone you up to see how things are going quote wise they do all they can to get your business

it may be a bit more than a off the shelf policy but it will be for a reason, dont forget mods will be covered on mollys but i doubt they will be on the normal policy, they may not stop you form claiming but they may not be counted in the value of the payout

Maybe.
Im more concerned in the event of having a claim made against me rather than what I would receive. I valued the car at 4k - 04 WRX SL with 72k, it's the PPP from new that was causing the issue and I think this is probably more a plus when selling/buying rather than any value.

ppp is not a modification it is a optional extra, the car is listed different with most insurance usually as impreza sti 301bhp or similair.

Just looked at your quote details and the price Mike got.... you must have had a VERY cheap quote to beat the price Mike got (assuming the price he's written here was correct)

How can you be in a position to buy a Policy off a Company who doesn't cover modified cars (if yours is modified)?

pslewis - I got the initial quote sorted prior to viewing/buying for a standard car, upon looking into the books papers etc I see this cert for PPP and as such checked my insurance and found they didnt cover modded cars and then cancelled and bought another policy that did

Again nonsense around pre fitted mods, optional extras etc. When are the FSA going to make a common sense ruling. I had a factory fit spoiler (very discreet) fitted to my car by the previous owner that I thought was standard. Only realised after I bought it, 90% of people wouldnt have known and not declared it. How many people drive around in 2nd hand cars honestly believing to have standard cars when they dont, throwing mone down the drain in the event of a claim?

My advice to anyone would be to never refer to ppp as a modification but as an optional extra that was fitted from new.

Just because your partner works for one company, that doesn't mean they'll all operate the same way.
We deal with 40+ insurers. Some don't load any extra for PPP, some charge extra, and some refuse to quote at all.

How is it not good advice refering to an optional extra, as an optional extra.
If they then turn round and say we are not quoting fair enough.

I cant see how they can know the date a optional extra was fitted. My wife works for the most awkward insurance company in world when it comes to modifications but ppp is fine as it is a optional extra lol. eg if you have a wrx and put a sti spoiler on it they will not quote, but will quote a sti ppp no problem.
