What difference will an inch make ??

Your rolling diameter will be smaller, causing your speedo read incorrectly. If you go down in profile ie /60 to /55 you should increase overall diameter ie 15" to 16" Try the following web site to find out what you can fit without screwing up the speedo.

This is just a theory........surely with a smaller rollign diameter --> you run the risk of putting more strain on the 4WD/transmission dont you ??? (ie more revolutions per minute)
I'd check on this - 1/2inch may not sound alot.....but over 20000 miles it could mean alot more............

On this subject - what advantage do bfo wheels give over smaller diameters ?
apart from styling of course
lets say i'm on 16" rims, and I change to 19", am i going to see some improvement somewhere because of diameter ? or are improvements only due to increased width (more rubber on the road) and to lower sidewalls (and therefore stiffer sidewalls). I think that the racing caterhams use 13" wheels, while their road going counterparts are more likley to have 14" - 15".
Never really understood this....

Well I believe with the profile being the actual % of the width you are actually only talking 5% of 205mm which is 10.25mm.... so your car will be 10.25mm lower...less than 1/2 inch but there will probably be less flex in the sidewall and the car will probably sit at about the same height.
The arches might look a bit empty and make the car look higher.
Handling should be slightly improved.

Luke,
The change you propose will make very little difference to the rolling circumference - just over 1% - so the speedo difference is negligible. Reducing the aspect ratio from 60% to 55% may provide a slightly stiffer sidewall (depending on the tyre make) which should provide for slightly better cornering ability at the expense of ride comfort. With such a small change in tyre, I doubt whether you'd notice the difference.
