Turbo Choice Classic........Help!!!
Hiya!
Well over the past 6 months or so ive been building my track car, its a 1995 import wrx
The engine is pretty much sorted now all thanks to Andrew Williams motorsport but now it comes to Turbo and Injectors.
I want to run a safe 400 ish bhp but not sure which of the above would suit best plus i think my origonal tubby has the 90 degree angle as std.
Its not a show & shine car by any means but i just want the right boost to support all the hard engine work (fully forged etc), so any ideas on tubbys and which size injector would be great
As always thanks

Well you've obviosuly got to junk the tiny TMIC and stick a FM on - harvey's Hybrid GT Spec1 or 2 is a tried and tested one, at a good price.
I'm assuming your engine is forged now, by what you say?
So - early TY752 5-sp gearbox limitation's aside! - the world's your oyster as regards 400bhp s.s turbos...
TD05H 20g (can get billet comp wheel versions these days) c.370-400bhp
MDX321H (billet comp wheel) c.380-400bhp
SC40 XT-R (billet comp wheel) c.380-400bhp
MDX321T (billet comp wheel) c.400-420bhp
SC42 XT-R (billet comp wheel) c.400-420bhp
...ad finitum.
(Those bhp figures are based on a 2.0L running 99 RON unleaded).
You'll need at least 650cc side feed injectors - to be on the safe side.
The above turbos are all straight entry, so it would be best to try to go under the inlet manifold (a la M97>on engines) for the feed to the turbo. The MY93-96 90-deg bends can be limiting as power climbs. You'll need to use the oil cooler pipework and PAS pump/pully of a MY97-00 (v.3-6) car to clear the necessary space for the intake pipe to go under the IM. And you may need Teflon 10mm, or 20mm, IM raisers/spacers too.
Also, don't forget your MY93-96 WRX hydraulic operated cams can be limiting over 380bhp+, so your intended 400-ish target is a wise one...

Hey thanks for the info, i was wondering about going under the inlet so that may be the best way.
i know about the gear box being made of chocolate so im just going to run that untill it dies.
The heads are uprated sti version 4's/.......will these be ok?
Will the side feed injectors be a direct fit?
sorry for the questions this is my first subaru....(im used to nissan engines)
Thanks again lads

Yes, you have the best flowing Classic heads! The v.3/4 STi ones are good for way over 500bhp usually!
Yeah, side feeds are OEM fitment for a Classic (the same pattern inj. as what are in a lot of contemporary Nissans, coincidentally). I just mentioned it just in case you unwittingly went out and bought New Age top feeds!
BTW, best to go with v.5/6 "phase 2" pattern injectors (with the short injector head); think they are a tad superior than the v.1-4 shaped ones (long injector head). Although it's a moot point. You will need a fitting kit (rubber o-rings, bolts, etc) to fit the phase 2's to your phase 1's rails. Kit is available off Carl Davey's website for about £30-40.
Good luck with it...
