Removing New Age sound deadening
I've just come to re-fit the plastic undertrays to the front end of my Blob and the felt-like material stuck to them seems to me to be a perfect way to hold water in, thereby accelerating rust, for little apparent benefit.
Is there a good reason I need to leave it in there (eg- it stops the exhaust melting the undertray?), or can I take it out? The same goes for the stuff on the underside of the bonnet.
I have tried searching on here before posting this, but couldn't find the answer.
Thanks for any help.

+1, when I got the car the undertray wasn't there so I didn't even know it was missing. I've since removed the gearbox one and it has made spotting of my gearbox leaks easier so I've been able to fix them
