Default How to spot an import?

Hi guys, I'm sure this is an easy one to answer but there are so many threads on this forum I didn't find a clear answer....

Looking to buy an '05 STI. The owner is renowned for importing Jap vehicles so other than taking his word for it, what would I check for to identify it as a UK car. In particular are there VIN / chassis number references or other identifying things which can't easily be changed?

Thanks

can you check with the reg plate? , think mine comes up as '"sti type uk"

also a import 05 sti has twin scroll so sounds different (no burble) and has a rear windscreen wiper ,

there are a few more differences , but should be engough to tell
