Ok guys now i dont know if ive had my eyes shut for the past 6 months but i noticed that shell optimax is now available in Wales. I use Super unleaded on my MY01 WRX and have been for over a year and i wanted to know if its worth changing over to Optimax. I know a few of you guys on here use it so what do you think, any noticable improvment in MPG or performance? If so when i come to fill up with it do i just put it in on half a tank, empty tank etc?? because i thought that the ECU needed time to adjust.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Scrappy

Scrappy,

I have allways used Optimax in MY01 WRX so could not tell you what difference it makes from SUL. The ECU learns in realtime but most people suggest you won't notice any difference until a couple of tanks have run through.

Pity Search is not working. You will find lots of threads on this...

Been running it since it was introduced. Feels smoother and a little quicker. Also cheeper @ 77.9p/ltr than the BP SUL I was using, although I don't pay for my petrol so it's not really a factor.

Scrappy,

Mine sometimes stutters when trying to start in the morning so don't hold your breath.

Just a thought, but you are waiting until the fuel pump stops before you start the engine (about 6-7secs)from ignition on, if you do the engine will start first time,if you dont it has to wait for the fuel pump to catch up (so to speak)try it.

Zippy,

I just turn the key and usually off she goes, I have never left it as you say. I park it on a fairly steep drive, maybe it takes a while for the fuel to go uphill

I normally start it straight off without the wait but its worth a go i suppose. I find if you dont let it cool down before switching it off the night before that you will have problems starting it the following day. Also the same if its parked on a hill. Strange ahh!!!

With Optimax I have found you get a nice smooth power delivery. I have used it in my MY01 for 6 months now. I certaily notice the difference if I have to fill up an anything else i.e. in Wales.

I will expect to put some normal stuff in next week though as I will be down to Swansea for the day.

May get a bit better mpg and bhp, but there are so many variables you can not turely work out the difference.

Go for it, thats all I can suggest, and see for yourself if it benifits you.

scrappy, as with si can't really comment as I've always used optimax, but here's one of those threads with a few comments that might give you an insight.

Price wise compared to SUL it's a winner and a higher octaine so surely again a winner.

My old shape feels much smoother on Optimax compared to ordinary SUL so its Optimax every time for me.Also theres an excellent artical in this months EVO thats worth taking a look at,photos of some engine internals before/after Optimax thats very impresive.

i think shell optimax is good as my car feels faster, my peterol consumption has improved, but i do notice not just using optimax that once petrol is below half way it goes a lot quicker so filling up at halfway i am gaining alot of extra miles, id say 30 miles extra.

ive done 340km on 36 quid. any one know what that is in miles, and this is with a few blasts as well and town driving 90%.

'Ave a look at Evo this month. I run Optimax. Wouldn't use anything else. Have noticed a sharpness to the throttle take-up. Plus, Shell petrol stations have better grub...
