Default thinking of buying this.......

hey guys i signed up on here a long time ago with the intention of getting a scoob but for reasons which i wont go in to i didnt get one, well the time has come for me to start looking at a few,the guy who is selling this wants to deal with my civic type r so i am thinking about having it,apart from the obvious things what other things can i check/look out for?

he says powerstation put a new 2.5 bottom end in in oct 2008 with metal head gaskets and cosworth oil pump costing £3.5k and they also did the porsche brakes

And no wide track either on a 2005?

This is probably only a 2 litre engine surely?
Unless it's had a 2.5 put in it sometime?

That looks good to me mate, plenty of sensible mods, not stressing the gearbox, and some of the best brakes money can buy, all done by a reputable tuner, probably stands him at double what it's up for.

I would not worry about the milage as it's obviously a well looked after motor, with a newish bottom end your good to go, also if you fancy modding strap a bigger turbo on 350bhp and happy days.

Ok it's close to Sti money, but that depends what your civic is worth on how you equate whether or not it's a good deal for you.

People focus too much on milage IMO and it's so easy to fiddle it and service stamps these days, much better to go on condition and owners knowledge with these cars.

same thinking as me matey i never buy a car on mileage i buy it on condition/receipts present/what it drives like

my type r is worth £4600 and being as he is doing the cambelt and is taxing it too he wants my car and £500

not many sti's at £5k really especially with a new-ish engine

what are the 2.5 engines like? do they suffer from head gasket problems and oil pump/bottom end problems?

They do, but being as yours has the steel headgasket and has been done by a reputable tuner as long as you keep it around 350bhp ish you should be ok.

Sounds like you already made your mind up.

So its only running 260 bhp @ 1.3 bar, Presumably this is on the standard TD04?

The powerstation graph should have the torque curve too, Do you know what it`s got? with a 2.5 and TD04 should look pretty good

right ive just been on the phone to powerstation who can confirm that between 2007 and 2009 this car was very well looked after it had a new sti 2.5 short block fitted, the porsche brakes were fitted in 2007,down pipe and back box were fitted and a few services too so hopefully from 2009 till now its been looked after.

am i right in thinking the sti short block 2.5 is a forged engine? or is it just the 2.0 that are forged?

so far all is looking well apart from the price of replacment porsche pads and ap rotors............£812 GULP

Either engine can be forged by changing the pistons and rods from OEM spec to aftermarket, Chances are if it was a new short block it will have non forged internals,

Regarding the brakes, I'll give you £200 and my Brembos off my spec c if you don't want them

It looks a nice car, i really like the front brakes.

I wouldn't go beyond 340lb ft on the standard gearbox.

Plus the 2.5 isn't forged either but at 350bhp i doubt it will give you trouble if its mapped properly.

Its just a shame you can't take advantage of the torque that the 2.5 puts out due to the gearbox as 350hp 400lbft would be nice.

You can get either an open single din pocket or one with a door on it from Subaru, then a single din fits perfectly, it's what I done in mine, I opted for the open pocket.
