I'm guessing that is on a bugeye? Common problem i'm afraid. What you need is a complete front subframe.

Thats the front u frame. Its there for extra crash protection although yours isnt going to do much. My advise would be remove it and do without it. Ive been running without mine for a year or so as have many others. No adverse affects. Do a search on front u or c frame. All the answers are there

The picture shows its rather rusty is it because the quality of the steel is poor?

struck gold last night, around 9pm i had a message from another scooby owner who lives 3 miles fom me who also happens to be the head mechanic at my local scooby garage.

He is going to do my timing belt kit, water pump, decat up pipe, decat turbo back pipe, oil, filters, gearbox oil, diff oil,255 fuel pump and remove my front WROTTEN subframe at the weekend all for the bargin cash price of £180 :-)

He said that the subframe is a common problem with the bugeye and it is ok to remove it but would recomend fitting a support bar in its place.

i am still going to contact the dealer where i bought the car and see what i can get out of himfor the wrotten subframe so will see what gives.

Does removing the bar have any structural impact (when driving) and cause it to roll more?

its purely there for extra crash protection, probably to meet e.u. crash safty test requirments. many of the jap models dont have it fitted at all

I've had mine removed ages and i track mine. no adverse affects at all
