Default Which one

Hi everyone, I'm new to imprezas but have been interested in getting one for ages.
I like the classics but don't know if I'm better off buying a uk or import ? Can someone put some light on which one is a better car ? I'm told uk cars rust ?

Thanks for any help.

UK cars have been treated, but have been rusting since day one. Slowly.
Imports were NOT treated, but rust VERY quickly when imported.

UK cars got no toys, lower powered engines, crap gearboxes, poor interiors.
Jap cars got better engines and gearboxes, more toys, better interiors, etc.

UK cars will run on UK fuel.
Jap cars need mapping for UK fuel, or will go pop.

Your choice

Damn, best rush out and spunk a grand on an ECU and remap on mine......

Oh, hang on, it's been happy enough for the last 7 years on UK fuel, think it'll be fine.

So you can get two impreza both on the same year and shape and the jap one will have a different engine and box to the uk car ?

Same box, but, different gearing. JDM have better turbo's and different ECU than their UK equivalent.

JDM car is better equipped.

I can't remember when 100 octane fuel was introduced in Japan, where's Simon(GC8) when you need him?

OK, yours has been fine.

How many have gone pop because they were run on the wrong fuel?

I'm not sure that you ought to be advising folk that "it'll be fine" when you won't pay any bills that generates.
Perhaps err on the side of caution, eh?

What year is your car Mickey ?

I believe higher octane fuel wasnt released in Japan until the late 90's. Wheather your car has been fine or not it's still a great idea to get any jap imported car on the dyno for a check over.

It's not really. Find a car owned by an enthusiast who has his car maintained at one of the many excellent Subaru specialists and is happy for you to talk to them about the car and hey presto you will be fine.

To be honest you are best not worrying about the whole Jap/UK thing and just find a car you like ... a lot of them will have been modded anyway.

Why err on the side of caution when the OP, hasn't stated which year/type classic he's interested in, Jeff.

Late classic/Newage then of course they'll require a remap to suit our lower octane fuel, earlier car won't as 100 octane fuel wasn't available when they were released.

Trying to find out when 100 octane fuel was actually introduced in Japan is a bit of a ball ache though.

For that kind of money you could get a type r or ra, very good cars in standard form.
