Default B&Q offer DeWalt or JCB drill

They have been offering £20 off if you spend £100

JCB £85
DeWalt-£99

I picked the JCB one. Anyone took advantage of this deal and did i pick the right drill for DIY ?

i went for the DeWalt bit set myself. For what reasons did you pick dewalt considering the JCB has metal gears, lithium batteries, and 5 year warranty ?

Batteries will go first though and with a 5 year warranty jcb are offering. perhaps in the next years you will not need to replace tool quite so often. see where im going ....

Are you saying that if it looks very worn after say 2 years they wont replace it and accuse me of having used it for trade use ?

I have seen stranger things in the past lol, i once returned a hitachi 3 mode hammer drill to b&q for repairs, they sent it off and called me to collect it 2 weeks later, i opened the box to find a different drill (same model but not my drill), we called hitachi direct from the store and the repair guy said that he had replaced it with there spare workshop drill to this i went a tad barmy and demended either my drill or a new one which i got 3 days later

Yep makita are very good, i had a full makita set up for years then renewed everything to dewalt and to be honest they are both very good tools , nothing in them for me

Had both makita and dewalt , both good but preferred dewalt for my hands. No real abuse given to either though so not a thorough test I suppose.

one review i came across

Buying a cordless drill
"I bought this drill knowing that Makita make fine tools. What I think is that this drill is aimed at the DIY market and appears to be good value with 18V and large chuck size but is not really fit for hard accurate work. I found there was more play in the chuck rotation than other drills I had bought in the past so I retuned to to B&Q on that basis and swooped it for a JCB drill at the same price. Unfortunately the JCB is just as bad with chuck rotation play so now I know that you get what you pay for!"

Get either Dewalt or Makita but ensure you get a Li-Ion battery version

IIRC no warranty will cover Battery death unless happens in first third of warranty through faulty workmanship. Batteries although are rechargeable are classed as consumables and you have to prove faulty and not expired through wear and tear.

A Li ion battery shoul last 10 the life of a Nicad one IMH
