I've been stung before paying as gift lost £400 on a set of defis off piston heads that never turned up n guy disappeared so if some one asks me to pay as gift if it's over £50 Il pay the extra fees on top and send as normal that way I hope if the same happens PayPal will sort it out
Hopefully this thred will get the ball rolling for u

I'm gonna stick to just adding the fees from now on but how do you work out the fees properly? Just add 4%?

SN is not Ebay
Paid by PayPal gift
Give him the benefit of the doubt

Just to save Ali and NS04 the bother of their usual diatribe on the subject

In the sale section, there is a sticky thread called Market Place Rules and Advice:

Fraud/Scamming Advice

Members are advised to be aware of unscrupulous people using the market place. And therefore must take personal safeguards to minimise the risk of becoming a victim. These include:
  • Only buy from subscribed paying members. These are either 'Plus Members' or 'Authorised Advertisers', and indicated by the logo beneath their avatar.
  • Sellers should pay extra caution when selling to new members or members without a 'Plus member' status.
  • NEVER use the gift option on Paypal transactions, you may avoid fees, but you will be unable to make a claim for refunds.
If you ignore the advice you risk getting scammed. Don't know why people keep ignoring the advice but they do.

Hopefully your seller isn't a scammer as you have no comeback if they are.

PayPal automatically works them out and shows you, etc. You do nothing.

Before the usual snet witch hunt starts, he's a known member and seems like a genuine guy.

I also know from his threads on here that he is moving house, has had legal problems to do with the landlord not paying mortgage and subsequent court issues, and just to put the icing on the cake his mrs is about to drop a sprog.

So just give the lad the benifit of the doubt, as i don't think he is a scammer, just going through a difficult time.

Here is the thread

https://www.scoobynet.com/non-scooby...on-notice.html

I think you may well be right, that he is just having some problems at the moment. He hasn't been on here since the 22nd May, so it may well be best to try to contact him via e-mail as suggested earlier. I would give him the benefit of the doubt at this point, although I do understand your frustration. I genuinely hope this is resolved soon.

thats my point they all have plenty of time to list pictures, reply to emails and agree prices and take peoples hard earned money.

then as soon as they have the money they are too busy to pop it in a box and post it.

i bet he wasnt too "busy" to transfer the money from paypal to his bank account.

if it helps this guy was interested in a pushchair I was thinking of selling so clearly he had the intention to pay for something himself. I'm sure he will re-appear as others have said, he must be going through a bad spell. Seeing as he was interested in a pushchair he could well be expecting if not already dropped which is why he has gone missing.

At the same time I must agree it doesnt take long to send something, could have got a friend/family to send it.

I know he's been having problems at the moment with moving.

I also know that he's been around a while and seems honest.

I reckon he will rectify the situation for you.

Ok guy's just back off, as all manner of things could have happened in this guys life with the things he has going on.

It must be so nice never to have had a difficult time in your lives, where other things have been more important to you than posting something.

I understand the op's frustration, and there is a certain amount of validity to your comments, but that doesn't mean that you should air them at this time, it would be nice if people offered words of support or reassurance for a change, we are supposed to be a community, what happened to compassion and understanding.
