Default coil pack question

Hi there I have a 1995 wrx turbo, I can't get it to spark and I'm clue-less I've changed crank sensor, and cam sensor, still nothing no spark atall, I think my coil pack is packed up, how can I test the coil pack and also were is the coil pack ? I can only see 4 coils, 2 on either side of heads then they go under inlet and run round into 2 plugs near washer bottle ? Please can someone help or what it could be thanks

early classics like ours have a coil pack per plug thats it mate

have you checked the spark plugs are good?
the coil pack on each plug, check these for cracking etc, they get naff as they get older & if you increase boost and they are faulty they cause spluttering as they are failing to give the power to the plug.

Have you plugged in the leads under the dash to see if you have any faults stored on the ecu?

Is it turning over & not firing up? battery ok? ground wires ok?

any other info you can advise us with?

The coilpacks are built onto the ends of the leads, which go over the plugs.

Default 1995 wrx

Basically the story line is I bought the subaru running with a bottom end failure I took engine out and the car has stood for ages, I now have fitted a 1998 enginebut only using the block and heads, and using my original inlet, wiring, coils ect so now problem solved put engine in, but the car is cranking over but I have no spark and fuel pump seem to not be working aswell, doing my head in here the problem was the block I've sorted tht now car won't start, I hope this is a small minor job as I've spend a lot of cash in this car... I'm going to put a wire from battery straight to coils tomorrow to see if I get a spark, need to find out if coils have had it if they do spark then need to check my ECU, I haven't connected the wired to check codes yet but probs have a few codes as engine has been out I really can't think what it could be apart from coild pack has had it, I also have a alarm/immobliser on car Autowatch but alarm seems to be all working locking and unlocking, turning off and letting me start car, but car won't fire up just cranking over, sounds like it wants to start but not sparking any ideas anyone apart from mabey a dogie coil pack, the car was running before coming out ???

Deffo not got an alarm prob with it cutting the fuel pump out perhaps?

Also a very long shot, I presume the cams came out when you changed the block/heads? If yes, did you get the inlet and outlet ones the right way round?

Not sure myself, but that seems right!

Does the fuel pump kick in when you turn ignition on?

Well if the fuel pump isn't running, then that is suspicious as well, however, it could be the ignitor box which is on a heatsink near the boost solenoid.

The coilpacks are total rubbish on the early models, well worth doing a newage conversion to delete the ignitor box.

Agreed. Also check the lead connections, quite prone to bending when reconnecting etc, you got the leads the right way around i.e. to the correct coils?

Default pisssd off now

Still no spark and no water pump, I am getting power to the coils but low volts, on all 4 coils, all fuses and plugs all good, going to check the ignitor box today, I tried to do a diagnostic test, I pluged in the black plugs under steering coloum, turned ignition on and I got nothing although there is another small black plug but can't find another one for that, then I tried again but using the green plugs turned igniton on but same again nothing, I feel this is turning in to a major fault nothing small and easy job, looks like it fkdd, unless my ecu has had it, but it was fiine before, don't see why it would mess up with car just sat there for months ?
