Oil flushes? Are they worth it?
Gunna do my timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and oil service in a couple of weeks.
Just wondered if anyone ever uses an oil flush treatment?
I heard that flushing out can some times be bad for the engine, due to potential cracked rings in the engine that are being protected by the old aged oil residues. Any thoughts?
Mines a type r V4 with 95,000 kilometres on it.

Since owning my Scooby STi bugeye, I have done a oil flush every second oil filter change. Drained the old oil, refilled then allowed to idle for 10 minutes. Drain, replace filter and fill up. The car is now on 105k miles the engine has never been rebuilt, just bolt on mods to give it 440 bhp.

cheers lads,
All comments have been taken on board.
Think I will steer clear of the flush.
Car runs sweet as a nut. Pretty much standard apart from my afterburner.

You might not. I started doing mine before I read about these procedures for doing oil changes. I could be just lucky but as I have worked on engines must bigger than a flat four and the only thing done similar is the pre-filling of the filter.

Why anyone would want to run their engine on a cheap oil-paraffin mixture is beyond me. if it was me i would just put a good quality fully synthetic oil in like millers or silkolene

When you fill with the new oil you should turn over the engine a couple of times before you reconnect it

Where have I said I used a "FLUSH OIL"?? I said I did a "oil flush", somewhat different. Flushing oils are too thin when hot. I used a semi synthetic oil prior to filling with a synthetic oil. I said since owning my Scooby which I bought new in Cyprus is 2002 so once back in the UK had no warranty so all repairs and servicings (apart from cambelt) I do myself.

I was not saying you it was a general comment about oil flush as per post 1
Imo using a low grade semi is a complete waste of time.
If you bought a car new in cyprus why would you have no warranty? u have a 3 year subaru warranty. all u do is contact subaru uk and give them your chassis number
